ASEAN Free Trade Agreement - is it easer to emigrate now?

Now that the ASEAN FTA is in effect is it any easier to retire in ASEAN

I'm looking at staying longer in Thailand & previously you could only stay there if you applied for a retirement visa or an educational visa. Been waiting for the ASEAN FTA to see if it will make doing so more convenient without the red tape.

If you have a retirement visa I heard that you have to report to the police station regularly, show your bank statements,....etc. Sounds like a lot of hassle.

I am looking at settling down in Pinoyland..would this ASEAN thing make it any easier? Like to own land etc? And increase legal protection?
