The truth is probably because NTU, SMU, SUTD and SUSS are hiring more lecturers from China who have an extremely poor command of English.

Very soon, we are going to have NUS-Tsinghua University, NUS-Fudan University and etc.
Our Govt attributed declining standards of English competency to the widespread use of Singlish. This led to the launch of the Speak Good English Movement in April 2000 that championed the use of Standard English over its English-based patois. Is the PAP making a drastic and ill-advised U-Turn now by conducting certain courses at NTU, SMU, SUTD and SUSS in Mandarin?

Hindi is next.
It is hardly surprising that the majority of our young are not proficient at handling different varieties of the language. After all, an estimated 50% of households are ill equipped to support the use of Standard English. God help us if Hindi is introduced to our tertiary institutions just to pander to the 650,000 CECAs here.
