Bogus electrician cons woman
By Ted Chen
A THIEF made away with RM3,000 (S$1,293) last Wednesday after tricking a flat owner that he was a bona fide electrician.
The man was found alone inside a HDB flat at Jurong West Avenue 5 when the owner returned home.
Despite finding a stranger in the flat, the 27-year-old housewife was convinced by the man that he was a legitimate electrician.
The man, described as in his 20s, slim, dark-skinned and about 1.7m tall, told her he was there to fix the switch box and that a cleaner had let him into the flat.
It is believed he had entered after forcing open a window.
She became convinced after seeing that he wore a Singapore Power jacket and receiving a generic calling card with the company name on it.
Soon after the man left, the housewife discovered that RM3,000 has been taken from a cabinet.
Anyone with information can call police hotline at 1800-255-0000.
