i spent many wonderful hours as a child watching the kungfu dramas and i could feel the emotion from the actors as they spoke. When listening in Mandarin, they feel like reading a treasury report or a tax roll. Totally devoid of emotion. Even fuckien has emotion. My canto friend loves to say that everything said in hokkien sounds like a joke. he loved playing the darth vader in hokkien for me all the time.

Also for whatever strange reason, my family has a long history of canto friends more than hokkien friends. My grandfather apparently used to have to speak Malay to them.
