Anyone Going From Smartphone Back To NON-Smartphone ?

after a most frustrating time with a smartphone plus plenty of reliability issues.............even some parts of the touchscreen now dead................home button also not working sometimes..........i decided to go back to normal phones.............

anyone here doing the same ?

My friend switched from his smartphone to a Nokia dumb phone. No regrets. Found that most apps were useless, phones and plans overpriced, when all he needed was just phone and SMS and take some photos. Keeping up with Twitter and FB was eating up all his precious time. Games were too addictive. Typing on a dumb phone's physical keypad was more precise and quicker too.

Seems like the Europeans (who're usually ahead of the curve when it comes to bucking trends and fads) are becoming disillusioned with the smartphone too.

So take heart, you're not alone.

SUMMARY:

Declining sales in Spain and France suggest that Europe’s relationship with mobile has reached the ‘it’s complicated’ stage. But what are the reasons for the precipitous falls being witnessed by mobile companies across the continent? And is it actually a bad thing?

Forget the fact that it’s summertime: it must feel pretty chilly right now if you’re a mobile operator in Europe. Across the continent, evidence is mounting that people are starting to change their relationship with the mobile industry — and it has operators worried.

A few days ago, it was revealed thatrecord numbers of Spaniards are ditching their handsets — with the number of lines dropping by around 380,000 in April.

And now statistics from France suggest that the number of mobile sold will be down substantially this year. In fact, according to figures published by the French newspaper Les Echos, handset sales in France are set to fall from to their lowest level in years.

The mobile sector is in turmoil. And operators are not the only ones to see a change: handset manufacturers are also experiencing disruptions. According to the firm GfK, in 2012, the number of mobile phones sold in France will be lower than last year, with about 22.5 million phones set to be purchased this year, against 24.3 million in 2011.

It’s all a long way from a few years ago, when Europe (and the world) seemed locked in a romance with mobile that would never end. But suddenly that romance feels like it’s on the verge of turning into a tragedy.

So why is this happening? Are Europeans finally ending a decade-long affair with mobile? Is Nokia’s decline having an impact on the rest of the market?

It’s complicated

Well, the best answer is probably just to say that it’s complex. There are several reasons for declining mobile adoption, and none of them give the complete picture.

First there’s the big fat obvious issue. The economic crisis and continuing trouble in the Eurozone is making life tough for ordinary people — especially in Spain, where unemployment is running at around 25 percent. That means many people on low incomes are cutting back, which is why (for example) the hardest-hit part of the Spanish mobile sector was prepay.

But Spain’s month-on-month drops have been happening for several months, and now the cutbacks are deeper than most people expected. In fact, depending on how you look at the numbers, they even look a little counter-intuitive: after all, some analysts had quite logically concluded that pre-pay would rise while subscriptions would fall as cash-strapped users cancelled their contracts and went for a pay-as-you-go option. That’s not happening.

There are also little local quirks to remember. In France, for example, analysts suggest that part of the sales decline could be the arrival of innovative new provider Free, which offers customers extremely low cost packages because it offloads voice traffic over Wi-Fi wherever possible. Lots of people are joining Free with unlocked phones — buying SIM cards, but not new handsets.

Meanwhile in Spain, Telefonica and Vodafone have tested out a new business strategy of cutting subsidies on handsets, and it has really hit them hard where it hurts.

But the more concerning issue for the industry is that these drops are not just limited to troubled nations like Spain, or even indirectly troubled nations like France (which has been dragged into the mire through its relationships with the struggling Mediterranean economies). It’s also happening elsewhere: in the Netherlands, for example, the mobile industry has been watching things drop away for some time.

But lower turnover is not necessarily a bad thing

If you look at this from a different perspective, however, things may not be so terrible. Profits may be under pressure, but the market is moving towards smartphones — which are far more valuable to operators than the throwaway, highly-subsidized lower tiers of the market.

Maybe people are purchasing fewer phones because they’re more expensive. Or maybe they’re just making the old ones last longer. Maybe the old ones are justbetter. Maybe people are canceling contracts because they’re being more sensible about their spending and reining in costs in an appropriate manner. Don’t forget that for many years, most major European countries have had more than 100 percent mobile penetration.

Even if there are still reasons to be cheerful. Mobile penetration is enormous, and actual data usage is still sky high.

u guys are crazy.....for a long long time i have carried a dumbphone,those cheapo phones that bangalas carry since i was a poor sonofabitch and smartphone technology i deemed way too expensive...of course since i never carried smartphones before i did not know what technology was capable of so i didnt felt like i was missing anything.....until the moto g came out......and finally the technology of the 21st century was in the hands of the poorest of the poor.

i have no idea how u can go back to using that junk.....that tiny shitty lcd display,dumbass phone that cant do anything except play some retarded ass games thats not even fit to be on a 1995 gameboy,sms memory bank that can barely hold 100 sms and u are always full,no filing system,cant read ebooks,no internet on the go,no keyboard.....

Maybe the problem is with the brand & model of the phone
I remember that in the age of the simple phone even Nokia had models which were unreliable e.g. firmware problems.

I decided to spend the extra $ & got an iPhone which is one of the more reliable brands

Only use my phone for calling and texting. For travelling I use a good compact digital camera. All the stuff I need to do like e-mailing, surfing, PP and Excel I do it on my MacBook. I watch Bluray HD movies on my home theatre system. I listen to music on my high-end hi-fi system at home and in the car.

thats the problem,u have so much junk like macbook,home theatre system,hi end hi fi.....when u can throw away everything and just have a cheap and powerful lenovo laptop and a smartphone.....i mean gimme a break who the fuck watches bluray hd on home theatre and listen to music on hi end da fug....are u a lao unkle?i want watch any movie or tv series just torrent and straight away open it on my laptop and listen to any music on grooveshark,classic rock,roots reggae,bossa nova,disco,jazz on my logitec speakers.and i dont need no goddam home entertainment system to watch movies....i can multitask....watch movies...then surf sammyboy,....then watch some documentaries about history of slavery and finance.....then read some ebooks....then masturbate......

Trust me, there's a BIG difference between watching a HD video on a 5" cellphone screen and a true-HD projected 100" screen. Not to mention the 7.1 DTS sound system. Beats the hell out of our local cinemas anytime.

Ditto for recreating the concert experience at home for music.

Once you've experienced it, you can't go back to watching video and listening to music on your laptop or tablet or smartphone or Logitech speakers. Trust me.

A capacitive-sensing touch screen relies on the natural electrical capacitance of skin. The digitizer has two parallel plates formed from a thin coating of conductive material on a glass surface. Touching a point on the screen changes the contact point’s capacitance; this triggers the digitizer, which locates the point and sends the information to the computer. Capacitive screens work well with bare fingers but not gloved ones. If you prefer to use a stylus, you need a special capacitive type for this kind of screen.

I had been using old Nokia phone for almost five yrs.
Cannot remember the model,
very reliable.
Battery can last at least three days.
Just talk and Sms,
Dont need the other apps.

Electronics failure can be unpredictable.
Bought a octo-core tablet 6mths ago. Digitizer failed after 2 months.
If gadget hangs, remove n replace battery on smartphone.
