A pastor has been sentenced to two weeks’ imprisonment for tempering with his car’s fuel gauge meter.

Pastor Yang from a church along Balestier Road faced two charges of providing false information to the customs officer.

He was arrested this year January at the Woodlands checkpoint when preparing to enter Malaysia. Pastor Yang was caught lying to the customs officers that his car fuel tank was three-quarters full when it is only a quarter full.

This is some low class pastor. Need to cheat to save a few bucks off cheap Malaysian petrol. I can never get those drivers who drive all the way to Malaysia to pump petrol. Even if you factor in some cheap groceries, the time spent is not worth it.

A church pastor tried to drive to Malaysia with about a quarter tank of fuel in his car, breaching the three-quarter tank rule for vehicles leaving Singapore.

The car's fuel indicator, however, showed he had a three-quarter tank of petrol.

The incident happened around midnight on Jan 3 when the pastor was at the Woodlands Checkpoint.

When questioned by an immigration officer, Steven Yang Suan Piau, 47, twice maintained that the indicator was correct and that the fuel gauge had not been tampered with.

The Government should be taken to task for still enforcing these silly rule.

Don't they know that the price of petrol in Malaysia is NOT cheap anymore.?

Don' they know that Malaysia does NOT Allow our Singapore cares to purchase their minyak in excess?

Don't they know that such sign-boards make people of other nationalities laugh at the way Singaporeans are treated?

If the Government or their beloved "chosen" leaders does not know all these, the CUSTOMS Dept should tell them that this is now "OBSOLETE".

Do away with it and let the Cisco security guards do other meaningful work instead of wearing a gun and checking petrol-gauges.
