Interesting to note that in Christianity and eventually Judaism pork is forbidden as well. People of the book has the same common root and worship the same God. I suppose its only natural that it extends to Islam as well. I thought I might have read a passage where pork is not physically "dirty" but also spiritual as well, hence the command not to eat them. Been a while since I've read the Koran though.

The old testament already forbade the consumption of pork. The Christians don't follow the old testament because St. Paul said one doesn't have to carry the "yoke of the jews" to the gentiles. The muslims saw the sins of the Christians and vowed to heed the old testament more fervently than the jews - which they have to the point of being ascetic, labelling everyone else who doesn't as infidel (I like that word though). As for the spiritual part, I am unable to comprehend; if the afterlife is so important, why is human knowledge mostly channeled to instinctively prolong and extend mortal life?

I Wan Subway to go Halal. I believe if subway have the heart n think abt those ppl whom are unable to eat due to some reason n wan to try it out, should go Halal like the rest of the fast food in there,(Mac Kfc Long John Silver Burger King Wendy Popeye Texas Chicken, Ect) whom can go Halal. I also understand muslims who wan get can actually go to jb n eat however think abt those disablity ppl n small kids whom can't go out of Sg n wan to eat or try out subway, wat can they do? Can i have a Suggestion? Let all make a Petition n ask all ppl here to sign n protest to Subway to make a Change by going Halal. The reason for switching to halal is obvious. By not serving halal food, businesses would be eliminating at least 20% of your potential customers. If you're in the F&B market, you cannot ignore this sector of the population especially if you're in the fast food business which someone has already mentioned is extremely popular with the Malay Muslims.

The issue is even more prominent in Malaysia where even chinese restaurants have gone halal to capture the Malay business. One noticeable exception to this is the Kim Gary chain of restaurants which still remain non-halal, even in Malaysia.
