I Wan Subway to go Halal. I believe if subway have the heart n think abt those ppl whom are unable to eat due to some reason n wan to try it out, should go Halal like the rest of the fast food in there,(Mac Kfc Long John Silver Burger King Wendy Popeye Texas Chicken, Ect) whom can go Halal. I also understand muslims who wan get can actually go to jb n eat however think abt those disablity ppl n small kids whom can't go out of Sg n wan to eat or try out subway, wat can they do? Can i have a Suggestion? Let all make a Petition n ask all ppl here to sign n protest to Subway to make a Change by going Halal. Lastly i will juz pray tat the wishes of all the people here will come true. Cheers to all n i m Proud of Christine Chia whom have a great heart to the muslims people. U Rocks. They're doing what's economically expedient.

Malay-Muslims are avid fast food consumers, and it isn't unusual for them to patronize the fast food joints several times a week.

Halal certification would attract more of them as customers. That more than offsets the opportunity costs of loss of business from pork eaters and the latent costs incurred from the certification.

I've only seen 1 subway place in KL around the Bukit Bintang/Low Fatt Plaza area, just down from KFC & it was a small place. It didn't have the same variety as the outlets in Spore.

The types of food that are popular are fried & chicken. Different from waht Subway offers.

I can understand this explanation when applied during those (the prophet's) times, but today, these omnivorous animals are inspected before slaughter, butchered, stored and transported under hygienic conditions, how "dirty" can it be? Biblical taboo foods refer to carnivorous animals which might have ingested a diseased prey before they themselves were killed for food. These days, unless one eats wild game, most farm raised animals are safe. "Dirtyness" exists only in one's mind. Don't tell me the clergyfolk in Islam do not think and advice their followers as such? They are appliying the logic during the Dark Ages to present day Post-Industrial Age society, and if so, why are other people coerced to abiding by their antiquated ways? These days, God no longer inteferes into human's day-to-day activities, except perhaps for putting stupidity into some peopl's heads.

Interesting to note that in Christianity and eventually Judaism pork is forbidden as well. People of the book has the same common root and worship the same God. I suppose its only natural that it extends to Islam as well. I thought I might have read a passage where pork is not physically "dirty" but also spiritual as well, hence the command not to eat them. Been a while since I've read the Koran though.

Actually, there is an agricultural reason for not eating pigs.

I try to put in simple terms because it is a Wednesday today.

Back in the olden days when mosques and churches rule the land instead of governments, a smart cleric already realise that rearing pigs means that food meant for humans are used to rear pigs. It takes 2 years to grow a pig to market size. The land is also not productive enough to produce crops to feed both pigs and humans.

So, a jihad against pigs is ordered.

Of course, since Islam spread, more and more countries, including those suitable for pig rearing, are converted, so this practice is outdated.
