'Please send me to jail': Driver, 22, who killed mother after jumping red light begs to be locked up
A GUILT-ridden driver begged a judge to send him to jail after he knocked down and killed a young mother. Callum Pearce ploughed into Helen Naylor, 34, after he drove through a red light while he was distracted chatting to his girlfriend.
Pearce had been told by the judge he would get bail until the day sentence was handed down. But instead the inconsolable driver begged the judge to send him straight from the courtroom to prison. He was sent to HMP Manchester and on Tuesday returned to court to be formally sentenced to a 13-month jail term.
Mrs Naylor’s death left her family shattered and grief-stricken. Her husband, Daniel, 34, was forced to take her young son to see the body lying in the mortuary because the distraught boy kept mistaking his mother’s twin sister for his mother.
