SINGAPORE: A pregnant 28-year-old part-time yoga instructor was jailed a day and fined $5,000 for slashing her husband with a kitchen knife.

Alexandra Chan, who is about six months pregnant, attacked 39-year-old car trader, Tang Siu Tong, in their apartment at Upper Bukit Timah Road on November 22 last year.

Mr Tang suffered cuts on his right hand and knee.

The dispute broke out after Chan refused to go on a holiday cruise with her spouse.

Lawyer, Sunil Sudheesan, who represented the blonde Caucasian woman told the court today that she had committed the offence impulsively.

He also said that Chan, who is suffering from major depressive disorder, has promised to continue with her treatment to address her condition.

The lawyer added that Mr Tang had also forgiven his wife and that the injuries he suffered were not severe.

Chan could have been jailed up to two years and fined a maximum of $5,000. - CNA/fa

A PSYCHIATRIC condition could save a Russian woman jail time for slashing her Singaporean husband with a kitchen knife last November.

Alexandra Chan, 28, had pleaded guilty in June. On Monday, her sentencing was adjourned to Oct 6 for social workers to gauge her suitability for probation. A Community Court heard that Chan, a part-time yoga instructor, was suffering from depression and required treatment.

On the morning of Nov 22, she had a quarrel with her husband, Mr Tang Sin Tong, 39, over her refusal to go on a holiday cruise with him. The businessman left the apartment at the Linear Condominium in Upper Bukit Timah Road and returned at about 4pm.

About two hours later, Chan knocked on the master bedroom door and told her husband to unlock it as she wanted to take some of her belongings.

When she got in, she suddenly started slashing him with the kitchen knife. He tried to block the knife but sustained cuts on his right hand and right knee.

For the offence, the mother of two daughters aged four and nine, could be fined up to $5,000 and/or jailed for up to two years.

Seriously? Have you seen her performances?
In my opinion, Michelle Chong is the most under-rated talent among all of SG's artistes and entertainers. I don't know what she's like as a person at all, but she is a really good comedian.
