the main difference between socialism vs communism is equitable vs equal ...in equal society a high flyer and a low flyer earns the same on the basis of a equal ...in a socialist society a high flyer earns what he deserves and so is a low flyer..but the basics such as education and healthcare and basic wages for survival is taken care ...whreas in a pure capitalist society the winner takes all ,so a very winners and a lot more losers ...the point of socialism is not to leave losers forever in a vicious cycle they cannot get out ..socialism equals the ground by intervention every now and then ,so the rest who were left behind have a chance too

US is not exactly very capitalist either, though they talk about capitalism ...what did they do during their subprime crisis? ...they intetvened in saved their banking system ...that is socialism...if left to market forces as a capitalist should ,since the very principle of capitalism is the fittest survive ..than all.their banks would kaput...the question is why they did not allow a capitalistic death of their banking system ...I reckon, than the multiplier effect and the domino principle will than apply ,....so long as there is a govrrnment intervention against the market forces than that is socialism...in that respect ,unless otherwise you have a governance like the Romans where the Senate decides on only matters like defence and etc ,most governance are socialistic ,it's only the degree that varies

The incentive to create and invent must be strong. If not we will still be writing letters on pen and paper and buying stamps to mail them out.

Moving away from extremes, economically we should lean towards creation. After that comes the (re)-distribution problem.

In Singapore's case, all the TLCs and GLCs stifle innovation and creation as they shamelessly snatch business and ideas for themselves and squeeze out private players.

Rather than supporting innovation and creation, these state linked enterprises will hijack your brilliant idea and fulfill their own KPIs.

Look at ST engineering, the best they could do was to make face shields (and it wasn't even their own idea) while Israel's private sector is coming up with antiviral reusable face masks. A state linked enterprise is never a match for the private sector; refer back to the creation incentive.

In Hong kong's case, they swung too far to the other side and forgot about the distribution problem.

We don't need labels like socialism, but equitable distribution of resources. Equitable does not mean Equal. It's fairness.

I think the point is they peaked and got surpassed. They definitely managed to improve on existing ideas but nothing cutting edge like what the American tech companies are doing today. But I stand ready to be corrected if someone can point out something cutting edge from the Swedes.

Back to the creation incentive. It's gets diminished the further left we lean.

No but they bred hardworking automatons with very little flair for creation. The best brains who disagreed with them left the country. It caused a brain drain that continues to today.

Having said that, it was appropriate for that era.

Our problem today is the half hearted attempts at moving the needle from the left to the right. With all the state linked enterprises sucking the life blood out of the business community.
