In many countries in the world, you have to live in the same area as the people who elected you, whom you present. I think they should be a legal requirement for MPs to live in the areas that voted for them. How else will they know about the crime rate, cleaniless, etc. of the constituency? Their kids should go to school in the area, they should shop there, etc. They will also be more approachable to the electorate if they do this. But will it be done, of course not. No PAP elite wants to move out of their multi million dollar bungalow in District 10, and mingle with the plebians. But should it be done. YES!!!

this is a no brainer, oppositions neber seize this ammo to shoot the PAP!

bummer!

Yeah, I don't know why they don't do that. Good point. Actually, I remember someone said Chiam See Tong does live in Potong Pasir. Could be the oppos themselves don't live there. But if they do, they should publicize it.

All wards have bungalows meh ? If don't have, how do you expect them to live in their consistuency ? HDB ? They are elites you know ?

If you do a mapping of where they staying, you may not be surprised they are all pretty close-by neighbours.

Yes there must be accountability and responsibility to the system !

think there's so need for that in Singapore.
Our MPs can travel to and from home to constituency easily in this island.

different traveling problems in bigger countries, a Taiwan Taipei City lawmaker would have no choice but to relocate from his home in Kaohsiung to Taipei if he want to serve his constituency effectively.

Yes, but how often do they travel from their home to their constuency? Once a month? The answer is not enough. If youy travel back and forth, its like being a tourist. You have to physically live there to experience the noise, cleanliness, etc.

Of course they should stay in HDB flats if there are no bungalows! Did they not say the flats are subsidized, don't they want to save money? Did they not say the HDB tenants are very satisfied with their flats and estates? If they think HDB flats are so fantastic, yes, they should stay in them.

Walau, ask these MIWs to give up their multiple times salary to serve the people already very give face liow. Still want them to stay in pigeon holes ? The bestests of the bestest may just walk away and Sinkapore, in the words of the old man, will go back to be kampongs.

Take for example the million dollar salary MIW that squeeze woman's breasts and no need go jail. He gave up his multiple timnes salary as well as squeezing breasts to serve the people. Still want him to suffer further by becoming a pigeon ?

How can ?

HDB estates and blocks have many more nehs nehs that can be squeezed mah. If he stays in his luxury district 10 bungalow, he can only squeeze his lau wife sagging nehs nehs, and his maid's neh nehs. To satisfy his neh neh squeezing, he must move to target rich environement HDB estate mah.

Actually it disadvantages the opposition more than the PAP. I am sure PAP members can afford to have 2 houses or rent a 2nd one. You have that rule and your ability to contest outside is screwed. I am sure JBJ would not have won Anson if the rule exist.

Maybe. ARe you sure JBJ did not live in ANson? I just like to fantazise that Lee Con You will be forced to move out of Oxley and into a 40 year old flat in Tanjong Pagar. LOL.

They should live in their constituency but they must not abuse the system like the British MPs allowance claims.

All PAP MPs did that by making their photos live in the constituency they are in at every precint's corner bill board and on big expensive banners for every racial festivities such as Hari Raya, Christmas and now they even have india's farmers festival to shower their love for foreigners from India and Bangleshi.
Their face live in the constituency not their souls. If you need anything just go in front of their photos and talk to them, your request shall be granted.

totally good idea. Now, which joker shld be staying at Pulau Ubin?

Even if all wards has bungalows, come the next election the gerrymandering will upset the boundaries. Perhaps the PAP dude MP for the southern islands should live on Pulau Senang?

This suggestion (all MPs should live in the constituency they represent) is unconstititional. The constitution guarantees all Singaporeans above 21 the right the stand in any constituency in Singapore, regardless of where they live, even in Hong Kong or Stockholm. It's up to the resident voters whether or not to elect him/her.
