Lim Hwee Hua quits politics

SINGAPORE: Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, said she will not contest the next General Election in 2016.

She said she will leave it to someone younger as she will be 57 years old.

Speaking at a media conference Wednesday morning, Mrs Lim, who is also the Second Minister for Finance and Transport, said she has served almost 15 years and that's a "reasonable" stretch.

Mrs Lim said she was also surprised by the depth of resentment felt by citizens towards the government, which surfaced during the campaign.

And while the PAP team was expecting a close fight in Aljunied GRC, Mrs Lim said she was still surprised by the outcome.

Mrs Lim said she plans to take a break over the next few months.

She also doesn't rule out the possibility of returning to the finance sector.

On Tuesday, fellow Aljunied GRC team member, Mr George Yeo also announced his exit from politics.

In the contest for Aljunied GRC in the 2011 General Election, the Workers' Party won 54.71 per cent of the votes, leaving the People's Action Party (PAP) with 45.29 per cent.

AFTER 23 years in politics, Foreign Minister George Yeo is exiting the political scene.
He confirmed at a news conference on Tuesday morning that he will not be contesting in Aljunied GRC in the next election.
'It is better for a younger person to take on this important task,' he said, noting that he is now 57 and would be 62 by then.
'Naturally, I would help to ensure a smooth handover.'
Mr Yeo also ruled out the possibility that he might run for the elected Presidency later this year.
With a smile, he said: 'I'm a free spirit and I don't think I'm temperamentally suited for it.'

Surprised?

That means she is clearly out of touch with the ground

:)

More to follow GE2016. Can't wait to see the backs of wks, mbt, lss, lhk,... A farking waste of resources to keep all these garbage.

If you qualified for lifelong pension without effort , will you still want to go through hell to get voted ? I think some qualified for 2/3 of last drawn pay. These ministers who called it a day are receiving GOOD $$$ for retirement , unlike the ordinary citizen , we cannot retire . I do not understand why they retain the pension for politician when all others were terminated. Any one has any idea ?

Is this a recount of overseas vote or merely counting to see if Joo Chiat can be won back by WP?

What are the final, final results then? Especially for PP and Joo Chiat.
