This is commonplace with people who are stuck in a cycle of misusing alcohol. Alcohol use makes them behave in ways that they don't intend to, and the self-loathing comes from not being able to stop.

People who misuse alcohol are normally the people who get a tremendous high from it, which comes with lows. The constant state of either being under the influence of alcohol or in withdrawal appears as mood swings.

Misusing alcohol may begin as a very social activity, like binging on alcohol at a nightclub, but it becomes isolating. People's behavior while drinking too much drives family and friends away.

Adult life, and indeed life at all ages, is tough. We experience and carry trauma with us. Many people slide into misusing alcohol to escape reality.

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, in 2012 around 7.2% of people in the US were suffering from alcoholism. There are around twice as many men who suffer from it than there are women. However, there are no two cases of alcohol abuse that are the same. One person may drink just as much as a problem drinker and it may pose no issues to their lives or relationships. So, do you know the signs of alcoholism?


The DSM-5 ('The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition'), published by the American Psychiatric Association, points out key symptoms. There are also many others that aren't included but are widely considered to be symptoms.

Being muud is a sign of alcoholism. Being a keling also.
