Ah Neh asking for ANG BAO

This morning when Im sitting in my living room,reading my newspaper suddenly saw a ah neh with a broom standing outside my door. I thought what happen, then my mum walk towards him and pass him a small ang bao. Then after getting what he wants, he ge ge sweep abit and disappear. Is this ok when ah neh knows that we are having new year and started to beg for ang bao even thou hes the sweeper for the common corridor?

A traditional chinese will not reject a request for an ang pow. Its all part of the tradition of the Lunar New Year celebrations. Even a $2 ang pow would do.

What's the problem with giving some ang pows to underpaid workers who keep your environment clean? Any amount will do. My mother gives out $10 ang pows to the road sweeper, the garbage collector and the postman every lunar new year. No big deal. If you think $10 is too much, just give $2.
