Team recommends medical parole for ex-President Chen Shui-bian

Taipei, Dec. 30 (CNA) A team of medical experts tasked with assessing the health of jailed ex-President Chen Shui-bian recommended granting him parole for medical treatment, Taichung Prison said Tuesday.

The 15-member team relayed their unanimous agreement with the proposal this afternoon to the prison, where Chen is serving his 20 year sentence for corruption, via Taichung Veterans General Hospital.

The prison said it will submit the team's report to the Ministry of Justice Wednesday morning.

Chen, who was in office 2000-2008, was Taiwan's first popularly elected president from an opposition party.
