The aging of our population is the result of a long-term decline in fertility rates and significant improvement in life expectancy. The number of elderly Singaporeans will triple to 900,000 by 2030. To compound matters, they will be supported by a relatively small base of working-age citizens as there will be a mere 2.1 citizens of working-age for each S'porean aged 65 and above. With less young adults entering the workforce, and many starting on their careers at a later age owing to tertiary and studies, employers need to shift away from discriminatory practices against older workers.

When Dr Tan See Leng was CEO and MD of Parkway Holdings and Parkway Pantai Ltd, the company retrenched large numbers of PMEs (especially the older staff) with only their notice period as compensation in spite of the publicly-listed company doing so well. TSL used to take home $11.9 million per year (including bonuses), but saw it fit to lay off subordinates who earned a fraction of his obscene wages.

How did he even think about serving people with compassion with his type of heart?

Dr Tan SL used to earn $11.9 million annually at Parkway Holdings and Parkway Pantai Ltd, but business went down by 35% under his watch as CEO and MD, hastening his forced departure. He will claim that he was wearing a different hat at that time.

But he is now the mom minister advocating the fair tripartite system. He is a hypocrite who practised ageism against his workers. 555

Under his watch, his minions can raid Pte company HR confidential data on employees. No Need warrant from court. Even more power than police. No as if they found any probable cause or evidence to apply to court for search warrant.
Local companies all want to quickly retire prematurely leasing to shrinkage of jobs for local oldies in company so many got to retire prematurely...Lol.

Dr Tan See Leng evaded specific employment figures for S'poreans as 95% of 2023’s employment growth went to foreigners. When questioned in Parliament, Manpower Minister Tan SL avoided revealing employment figures for S'poreans in 2023, emphasising the importance of balancing local and foreign talent for economic growth. We do not have an honest govt!

Last year, Dr Tan SL claimed that S'pore citizens made up 63% of the growth in the number of residents holding PME jobs from 2014 to 2024. However, he also noted that 1/3 of these PMEs were converted from non-PME roles, meaning that the increase was not entirely due to job creation, but rather a reclassification. He added that many new SG citizens and PRs, who were included in the overall figure of 382,000 jobs created during that period, were married to locally born S'poreans.
