Acer Timeline 5830 - anybody owns one ?

I met a few web designers and all seem to favour Asus with big big screen.

I'm going to use it for web design. Long battery life is a MUST. Budget less than SGD1K. Sounds ridiculous, but I'm getting it either in Taipei or Bangkok.
If doing web design, go for a notebook that support at least a DVI/HDMI 22/24 inch resolution and dual video output.

Spend the money on a nice wacom tablet. No regrets. Using an 1.5 year old VAIO i3 with 6G memory. Only recent upgrade is the 7200rpm HDD.

You're in the wrong thread. This is a Third World thread, not a good platform for you to shape your First World persona.

just my opinion about notebooks, nothing about first world.

It is really a much better build product. Run two operating system together, lit keyboard, very sharp screen. good battery life. very nice to touch.

People are talking about getting a Altis or Civic, and here you are telling us to get a Lexus, with emphasis that the rest being a "waste of money."

Yes, I agree. Which is why I insist that this is a Third World thread, not ready for a First World Celestial like you to descend upon.

Why ? Care to elaborate ?
OK, bro, this one I think I can share my 'expertise'. I don't know what area you are in but I assume you need to use some web authoring tool like, dreamweaver, adobe flash, or photoshop or even illustrator or some simple graphics viewing software. For web design, you need to go to and fro the designs. For example, I put design 1 on screen 1 or window 1 and design 2 on screen 2/window 2. I then 'compare' the works between the 2 monitors. It's much productive then switching screen from screen.

Even if you are using CMS for web design, the big screen or multiple screen allow you to have the 'feel' of different designs.

Pai Seh. My england not so powerful but I guess you understand what I am saying. In nutshell, big screen or multiple screen allow you to have a better overview of your designs.

Er....so what has it got to do with :

The most expensive component in a notebook and PC is actually the video output. Most entry level notebook has their video output integrated into their CPU. The higher end ones will have a seperate video processor. These video processors are also rated according to their GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) and memory. For example, my VAIO is capable of displaying 1920x1080 on an external HDMI monitor using HDMI output and also display on another SVGA monitor of 1600x1200 using SVGA output. And at the same time display 1366x768 on the notebook display SIMULATAEOUSLY. That means I have 3 screen, 1 notebook display, 1 HDMI display and 1 SVGA display all together.

OK, I be frank, my multiple display requirements didn't came in becos of web design. I need it to monitor the odds of different sports odds and stocks, and also use my statistics software and excel. But I do a little web design using this setup for my own business.

Not bookie lah. I only a sports fan who happen to enjoy 'sports statistics'.
