Bro in Pattaya, where did the assault take place ?

The Swiss tourist was irritated by the motor bike illegally parked on the pavement with the engine turned on. He went over to turn it off. The Thai experienced an acute loss of face, and attacked him from behind.

Ok I know this news and also where the place as this soi is very busy soi. One look at video clip know where already. I used this soi very often to travel to walking street or Wat Chai in Pattaya South.

This soi is directly behind Tuk Com and is parallel to Pattaya South Road. One end is at Pattaya third road and the other end is Pattaya Second Road. Its not Soi VC na. Soi VC is next soi parallel to this soi. See the attached pic. The orange line is Soi 16 Pattaya Soi 2 where the swiss is attacked.

In my opinion, (not siding with anyone) any stranger walk to anyone and do this, how would one react. Cannot always blame the kid. Social media now very hot on this topic

Creditable GDP growth 4% expected, despite Oct's slowdown for royal funeral

FPO official: GDP rise of 4% in reach
All eyes on exports in final months of year

Workers construct supports for the skytrain's Mor Chit-Saphan Mai-Khu Khot section.
To reach 4% full-year growth, GDP will likely have to expand 4.7% in Q4.

Bangkok Post Published: 30/11/2017 at 06:14 AM

Thailand's economic growth is likely to come close to 4% this year after robust momentum continued in October, despite low activity in the month as the country mourned the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, says a key finance official.

The economy in October avoided a slowdown, and whether GDP growth can reach 4% for all of 2017 will depend on exports in the final two months, said Soraphol Tulayasathien, director of the Macroeconomic Policy Bureau at the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO).

To hit 4% growth, the economy must expand by at least 4.7% in the fourth quarter, Mr Soraphol said.

GDP rose by 4.3% year-on-year in the July-September period -- the strongest growth in 18 quarters -- after expanding by 3.8% in the second quarter and 3.3% in the first quarter. In the first nine months of 2017, the economy grew by 3.8% year-on-year.

Exports rose for an eighth straight month in October, up 13.1% year-on-year, while the 10-month figure jumped 9.7% year-on-year.

The FPO in late October raised its GDP growth forecast for the full year from 3.6% to 3.8%, the same level as the Bank of Thailand's forecast but a bit lower than the National Economic and Social Development Board's estimate of 3.9%.

The FPO's upward revision was based on a new export growth forecast of 8.5% this year, up from a previous projection of 4.7%.

Mr Soraphol said vehicles, electronic parts and rubber contributed to October's healthy export growth.

Merchandise shipments to Europe rocketed 28.9% year-on-year in October, their highest growth in five years, while those to India surged 39.4%, also a five-year high.

Domestic passenger car sales in October soared 24.3% year-on-year, signalling a turnaround in the automotive industry.

Looking further ahead, Mr Soraphol said artificial intelligence (AI) will start to play a larger role in economic growth.

He referred to an Accenture report and International Labour Organisation data that AI will add 1.7 times to economic growth by 2035 and raise the world's labour productivity by 30-40%.

But every coin has two sides. Some 140 million low-skilled workers are at risk of losing jobs with the adoption of AI technology over the next 20 years, while 44% of the Thai workforce -- particularly those in the automotive industry -- will see their jobs at risk.

McKinsey Global Institute has said that careers related to website development, online marketing, accounting, reporters, editors, lawyers, HR and physicians could be replaced by AI.

Bro @ Patts, the store next to Differ Pub is called BL Commerce. It resembles a mini Chatuchak.

I found the tatami following your GPS style directions. Unfortunately, they only have small pieces, not a full mattress.

Wow … what a place!

Glad you locate the place. For your tatami mats, you might want to try your luck at Sri Racha/Bang Saen/Chonburi especially Sri Racha. Sri Racha has a very high concentration of Japanese nationals living there. Many shops cater to the Japanese only. There are also many second hand Japanese goods along Sukumvit Road in Sri Racha. If you want good golf stuff, Sri Racha is the place.

Note for those who confuse about Sukumvit Road. Sukumvit Road actually runs from Bangkok Sukumvit all the way to almost the Cambodia Border in Trad province. It is call "Tanon Sen Tang 3" "Road No. 3". Think it is the longest or second longest road in Thailand

E-business tax to be levied in 2018
Move touted to create level playing field
c1_1370059_171201040632_620x413.jpg

  • Bangkok Post Published: 1/12/2017 at 04:00 AM
An e-business tax, a levy on any online transaction that takes place in Thailand regardless of the e-commerce operator's location, is expected to come into force next year, says the Revenue Department's chief.

A draft bill on the e-business tax sets a ceiling rate of 15%, but the actual rate will vary depending on the nature of the business, said Prasong Poontaneat, director-general of the department.

The bill will levy a withholding tax on all online transactions occurring in Thailand, he said, though the tax will not have to be tacked onto an operator's taxable income calculation.

Given that online purchases are gaining momentum and the Finance Ministry is recording lower tax revenue contributions from traditional sellers, the government is seeking to increase revenue from foreign online vendors who do not sign up to conduct business operations in Thailand.

The department already held its first public hearing on the tax law, covering overseas operators who earn revenue from digital service transactions in Thailand, such as digital marketing, advertising, music and software application downloads.

The department recently said the draft bill will require financial institutions, which now act as intermediaries for money transfers, to withhold tax for online purchases and advertising fees on social media networks, sending the tax to the Revenue Department.

The department hopes that the e-commerce tax will create a level playing field in the online world, as several online firms based abroad earn revenue from Thailand and are not subject to tax. Mr Prasong earlier estimated the value of online purchases in the trillions of baht, while online advertising is valued at 10 billion baht.

Mr Prasong said the draft bill will supersede the double-tax agreement, which stipulates that those who are liable for tax payments in any country must have a permanent presence in those locations.

The draft bill on e-business tax will also annul the Revenue Department's value-added tax (VAT) exemption for online shopping on goods worth less than 1,500 baht that were purchased from foreign vendors outside of Thailand. The move is intended to pave the way for the department to tax all online purchase transactions.

At present, purchases from foreign e-commerce vendors outside of Thailand are subject to a 7% VAT only if the value exceeds 1,500 baht.

Shopping online for products worth up to 1,500 baht from overseas sellers without an office in Thailand has become ubiquitous, with the revocation of the VAT exemption intended to create a fair playing field for local vendors who must charge VAT on all purchases, regardless of value.

Roads 'just vanished'
Families cut off as roads vanish, 6 lives lost
Public buildings used to shelter flood victims

The storms in the South have taken six lives and there is no sign of a break in daily downpours that have flooded out much of Nakhon Si Thammarat.

  • Bangkok Post Published: 1/12/2017 at 04:00 AM
Nakhon Si Thammarat municipality was inundated with flood water Thursday after heavy downpours that have claimed six lives in the South since Saturday.

Among the flood-ravaged communities are Pratu Khao, Phaneid, Sareebutr, Ramkaew and Tha Pho.

Authorities sealed off local roads engulfed by flood water while locals moved their belongings to higher ground.

Schools in municipal areas were closed and public buildings and official premises were turned into evacuation centres to accommodate victims of the floods.

Runoff has also overflown across the province, particularly in Nop Phi Tham district where many households were left isolated as main roads became untraversable.

Local authorities were struggling to combat the floods given the volume of water, with 11 water pumps insufficient to flush all the water out to sea.

As of Thursday, water levels were measured at 330mm in Tha Sala district, 260mm in the central Muang district and 240mm in Nop Phi Tham.

Several tambon in Thung Song district were engulfed by overflowing canals Thursday as a result of flash floods over the Banthat mountain range.

Thung Song municipality was submerged under 50cm of flood water and all schools were shuttered.

Disaster and mitigation officials along with rescue workers were sent to help.

Railway officials were also monitoring the situation at Wang-Kapang station as the site was inundated earlier this year.

Officials said if the tracks were submerged, all trains to the southern province of Trang would be cancelled to ensure passenger safety.

Suksawat Sukwanno, director of Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport, waved away rumours the airport was planning to close due to the flooding, insisting everything was operating as normal.

Five water pumps were installed at the airport and large sand bags were put in place in flood-prone areas.

Other southern provinces are also reeling from floods including Narathiwat, Pattani, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Surat Thani, Trang and Yala, according to Chayapol Thitisak, director-general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.

More than 385,000 people in 2,540 villages have been affected.

In Songkhla, the water levels were rising in Ranot, Krasae Sin, Sathing Phra, Singha Nakhon districts due to overflow from Songkhla Lake.

More than 100 rai of rice paddy has also been devoured by flood water, with villagers using boats to navigate their way between communities.

Among Trang's 10 districts, Huai Yot, Kantang, Muang, Na Yong, Palian and Wang Wiset were the most affected by flood water.

In Phatthalung, the six districts of Kong Ra, Sri Banphot, Sri Nakharin, Tamot, Pa Phayom and Pa Bon suffered due to flash floods.

Meanwhile, the Royal Irrigation Department is preparing to ask the cabinet to approve a budget of 14 billion baht to tackle flood-related problems in the southern provinces, according to Thongplew Kongchan, the department's acting director-general.

Bangkok ready for Toon run

  • Bangkok Post Published: 1/12/2017 at 05:15 PM
Police have prepared for the arrival of Toon Bodyslam as the runner is inching towards the capital on his charity campaign.

Pol Maj Gen Jeerapat Phumjit, the deputy Metropolitan Police Bureau chief, said on Friday traffic police will direct motorists along the running route to avoid a slowdown that could cause a traffic jam.

Police held a meeting with representatives of the singer on Friday to map out traffic plans during his run in Bangkok.

Toon plans to reach Bangkok on Sunday by using Boromratchonnani and Sirindhorn roads to the King Power office on Rang Nam Road near Victory Monument. He will rest on Monday and then run through Ratchadamnoen Avenue to Siriraj Hospital and end in his home province of Suphan Buri on Tuesday.

Toon was in Muang district in Phetchaburi on Friday. His campaign to help 11 state hospitals saw donations breaking the 380-million-baht mark shortly before 5pm.

Toon, whose real name is Artiwara Kongmalai, aims to raise 700 million baht when he reaches Mae Sai district in Chiang Rai on Dec 25 to complete the 2,191km run from Betong district in Yala, which was set off on Nov 1. As of Friday, he ran 1,148km.
