A SINGAPORE SCHOOL TEACHER'S SO-CALLED "LIFE"

In 60s, 70s and 80s, each class size was more than 40 students. We still produced Engineers, Lawyers, Doctors, Ministers, Judges....etc. the teachers were lowly paid bur doing great job..The present teachers are overpaid and enjoying too much benefits, even most of them can't teach well.
When I was growing up in the 1980s, teachers felt a calling to the profession. These days, it's just a job to most of them; the passion is long gone. It was less competitive in our time, so more of us could have better jobs. My parents were PMEs in the late 1960s who could afford a spacious landed home in a prime district.

Teachers dont teach much these days

The only constant is change, but modern life shows changes at their absolute worse. With AI taking over more jobs, unemployment will be a worldwide problem. With so many people out of work, the masses will rise up against govts. Wealth and power will be concentrated in the hands of just a few brilliant and well connected elites.

I met my secondary school teacher many years ago at Orchard Rd. She retired in her early 50s because she could no longer keep up with the changes in technology. It was a real pity because this woman really cared for her students; change has come too fast for many dedicated older workers, including teachers.

Older Teachers can asked to be posted to MOE HQ and other ministries and they will still be dutifully employed

How did Tan See Leng got promoted? Just curious
Tan See Leng entered politics from a career in medicine and business. He was recruited by ESM Goh Chok Tong to contest in the 2020 GE for the PAP in Marine Parade GRC. He stepped in to succeed Goh after he retired, and was appointed a minister thereafter. TSL and Goh CT's son, Dr Goh Jin Hian were colleagues at Parkway.

Oh, TSL and Dr Goh are colleagues. No wonder. Fast promotion to minister
