A man is fighting for his life after being stabbed in Sydney's west.

The man, believed to be aged in his 30s, has been taken to hospital in a critical condition following an altercation with a group of men in Fairfield East on Sunday.

Police have established a crime scene at Belmore Street and investigations continue.
