Dear Sir (Mr Goh Meng Seng),
I shall introduce a bit about myself. Perhaps, it is good feedback for NSP in understanding the demographics of a forgotton electorate.
I am in my early 30s, has never vote before cause my GRC is always a walkover win for PAP. Yet, I have been politically aware since my secondary days and have followed the General elections since 1991.
I believe I am a very disillusioned Singaporean, who is fed up with PAP policies regarding their insane salary, NS issues, education, foreigners imports, rising cost. I travel quite frequently and is always hestitant to admit I am from the oppressive single-party city state that is Singapore, a pseudo-democracy that only appears hip on
travel brochures.
Recently, I saw you on CNA and was impressed by your reasoning skills & ‘debate’ with Michael Palmer. You will no doubt make a good opposition MP. In fact, I hope you steal the show from PAP & fight for Singapore’s constitutional rights in parliament just like how you did in the show on “Talking Point”.
As your fame increased due to an increase exposure in the media & new media, I was keen to find out more about NSP & you. Hence the interest in visiting & googling your blog & NSP’s website.
I understand this is your personal & not professional blog but I do appeal that you edit some of your posts because to netizens like myself, you completely contradict your decade-long political career by appearing to be an inexperienced politician, aloof, egoistic and perhaps even ‘emo’. I believe I do not need to remind you that you are a public figure & I really hate to see the PAP-controlled media use your blog to bring down the repute of opposition parties, or stir up gossips to distract the electorate.
However, your affection for UFO is cute & a much welcome comic relief for a stress-stricken Singapore.
Reading almost all articles I can find online about NSP’s involvement in this GE, I have been very disappointed. I believe for many generations to come, many Singaporeans will blame NSP if opposition paties lose in a 3-way contest. Will NSP sacrifice for the greater good, and not insist in 3-way contest in certain GRC & SMC?
Looking at the NSP website, you must admit it is quite frankly, a joke.
The layout, content, logo & just about everything is left to be desired. What a waste. NSP attracted many talents but the presentaion in your 24/7 space online is worse than a teenage student’s first foray in web design.
I scroll further down & I am greeted by a “2011 new year greeting” video that must surely be catergorised under comedy on YouTube. It makes NSP come across as being flippant & insincere in greeting Singapore. The audio is horrible, almost incomprehensible. The visual is even worse; poor camera used, zero or poor editing. Does anyone in NSP even know how to use a digital/video camera or Windows Movie Maker or iMovie? These are simple technologies. This is a political/corporate video. Where is the professionalism & sincerity. I humbly suggest NSP improve in maintaining an excellent website.
(Note: as I wrote this, the mentioned video on the front page of NSP website has only garnered less than 500 views.)
The internet never sleeps; after a rally, a voter might visit NSP URL to reaffirm the decision to vote for NSP.
The website is a very important tool in any political party’s arsenal. One thing for sure, NSP will appear boring, uncool to the young. Mind you, many young Singaporeans will be voting for the 1st time, and perhaps last, if they decide to migrate after seeing a 86-1 result in GE 2011.
Suppose you met a 25-year-old St James clubber in your walkabouts, who has no idea what is democracy, has never heard of Operation Coldstore, but can memorise the team roster of a certain soccer team in Manchester. NSP shakes his hand, exchange formailities and hand out a brochure with the NSP URL. The subject returns to his cosy HDB flat and MacBook. Within 4 seconds after typing in the URL, his impression of NSP is tainted. However, because he spend so much time on YouTube searching for SNSD Music videos, he decided to check out the NSP youtube video but his enthusiam is soon rewarded with a nightmarish experience in vlogging. There goes a thumbs down for the NSP video, a flag for spam & ultimately a precious vote lost. Imagine the viral & ripple effect. This chap has ‘friends’ who will vote what he votes simply because their purpose in life is to give meaning to the term ‘peer pressure’.
You have my word that I will vote for you in a straight contest be it a GRC or SMC. However, if you/NSP appear in a 3-way fight, I will either vote for the other opposition party (specifically SDP, WP & SPP) or there is a minimal chance I might spoil my vote.
With regards,
.
Stan
