Good riddance! Can't even leave on a positive note!

A New Chapter

People's Power Party has concluded its transformation of leadership.

Both Derrick Sim and I have decided to step down from our leadership positions, right after last GE2025.

But as responsible leaders, we held back and allowed the party to reorganize and determine its new leadership and direction before we officially stepped down.

As the Secretary General of the party, I bear the full responsibility for the party's showing in the last GE.

As Derrick has put it, I have become relatively "Old Fashion" in today's era. Such attachment to long held "Old Fashion Values" has resulted in my error in strategic judgement.

Upon deep reflections, I have put too much trust in others to hold on to such Old Fashion Values which have molded my political perspectives in my whole life.

In political contests, we depend on a lot analysis based on Fundamental Premises which we assumed others would follow.

For example, as a True Blue Opposition Politician, I believe no one in Opposition camp would allow PAP to win in WALKOVER so easily. This was the basis of past Opposition Coordination meeting in past GE.

We may not be in the same party or alliances, but we would try to make sure we optimize our limited resources, so that PAP would not have an easy win in WALKOVER if we have enough resources to contest ALL seats.

Sometimes we may end up with multi-corners fight but if it is due to excess candidates and resources, it is actually a good sign of progress for Opposition.

Imagine, opposition has progressed from the 1970s throughout 2000s whereby we can't even contest ALL seats till now, we have excess participants. It is a sign that Singaporeans at large have walked out from LKY era of Rule Of Fear.

However, I am still too old fashion to think that All Opposition will do anything and everything to deny PAP having a breezy WALKOVER.

That is my failure in recalibration my long held First Principles of Opposition Politics and this is where I fall.

My second Failure in Old Fashion way is to believe Singaporeans value Truth, Accountability and Values of a Conservative Society.

I was wrong to assume Singaporeans hold truth to the Family Values, Integrity and treasure people who speak Truth rather than words of sophistry.

This is the second wrong assumption of First Principles.

I have learned that imagery and sophistry of "branding" are more important than the policy ideals and ideas written in Manifesto. I have learned that Emotional and Visual appeals are more important than the True hearts of old fashion values.

Singapore voters have transformed but I still lived in the past of values.

Thus in conclusion, I consider myself no longer suitable to lead a political party in this new era whereby Values are no longer the primary consideration of voters.

On the public front, a lot of things have happened and I have also made my points. However, it is absolutely clear to both Derrick and I that Singaporeans no longer put any focus on Truth, Integrity and Accountability.

For the better or the worse, I really hope such paradigm shift of the societal trend will work well for Singapore's Future.

I would not continue in this political arena because I still hold true to my Old Fashion Values of First Principles (quite stubbornly) and I know it's not a good fit to this new era of voters and political players.

However I will continue to give my full support to People's Power Party and its new leadership in whatever possible ways I can contribute towards its future development.

This will not be the end of my political activism though. Just like Derrick, we feel that we should continue on social media to provide Political Education on policy matters. This is despite the fact that we know most Singaporeans don't really bother about policies or political ideas when they vote. All that matter to them is just the logo and tainted influence of medias.

But we just choose to do what we think is important for a better political development for Singapore.

Last but not least. I thank all my supporters for your trust and belief in us, through the thick and difficult times, you have chosen to stand firmly with us. Our group size may be small but our moral courage is overwhelming.

All the Best,
Goh Meng Seng
