Lets face it. Creating a profile in 2011 seemed to be the hardest thing for candidates and parties alike.
How many in this country let alone this forum can name without checking, the ex member of parliament who stood in 6 elections and was a running mate of Nicole Seah in Marine Parade. Yes, one of her running mate was actually in parliament for 5 years from 1991 to 1997.
Tony and Hazel despite coming out early and stealing the limelight as the best qualified and on par with the scholar brigade at that time, were lost in the hustings as a result of series of missteps and misfortunes. Teo Soh Lung was distraught and Alec shocked, with both quickly withdrawing from the public eye. It was only 2 elections ago that Singapore was facing the regular and time honoured drought in terms of quality that a candidates wearing slippers made headlines and interviews were done.
2011 is not only a watershed for PAP but also for the opposition and for Singaporeans. Too many candidates, many well qualified that even the press was struggling. Singaporeans were getting lost that they were reaching out to iconic markers and WP stood strong and tall.
KJ was so shocked that he lost the spotlight within minutes of the nomination date being announced followed by the catastrophic performance of his party and himself that word has it that he is pouring his own funds to open branches in 1 GRC and 2 SMCs. Yes, you heard right - the worst performing party is opening branches.
Long time poster boy of Singapore politics for all the wrong reasons could not fathom how the tide has turned. It was only 5 years ago that the DPM, Wong Kan Seng, the PM, the old man were on his arse day and night that he even eclipsed even Low in terms of profile, attention and press coverage. Even SPH chief prostitute, the elder sister had to step in. In 2011, he was asked to vacate his seat from the Bt Timah - Holland Team to Sembawang. To boot, even coverting a new doctorate title did not help in getting an invite to the A team. In the end had to accompany Singapore's most famous political frog Juffrie renowned from party hopping.
2016 will see pre-election horse trading going by the wayside. WP does not see any value. RP has already staked its claim on 4 or at least they think, NSP will be lucky to hold on to 3. SPP, 2.
