Again, the theme of anything in excess is bad. Excessive gambling is addictive and destroy families. Self controlled, not gambling, will power will make you a better person. Anything is addictive if its enjoyable, you just have to learn when it becomes excessive.
Indeed. Genting offers other activties besides gambling. But I have heard some horror stories abt hideen cameras in Malaysian hotels. Guess Highlands Hotel and Genting Hotel shd be safe

I like Australia as it is quite a short hop from SG and we dont really suffer from jet lag unlike travel to USA

Not sure when you went to get the impression Genting is empty. During the peak hours of 11 am to 6 pm, business is pretty good.They have also embarked on a massive expansion of casino floor space. The new area is linked to StarWorld. Overtime, there appear to be plans to expand upwards so as to link the two casinos.

Its not about addiction per se. Just because you gamble doesn't mean you will be controlled by it. I'll give you an example. On Saturday nights, my GFs like to go clubbing. I refuse to go because, entry fee is like $40, drinks are a minimum $50 a person. All up $100, I'll rather wait at the casino, go to the roulette table put down $100 on red/black. If I win I gain another $100, if I loss I walk away and enjoy the "cheap" beer there for $5 a pop. I also get to enjoy the "scenery " there of shaddy pple winning/lossing at the table and the escorts trying to get another client. Versus, queuing up at the club, in the cold dark rain, paying to get into the club, with the potential of pple stepping on you, spilling drinks, knocking you. Which do you think I'll enjoy more?

Yes, it is indeed bad for Sg to rely on vices like gambling to prop up the economy. SG has almost abandoned manufacturing and gone on the easy path of promoting vices. That cant be good in the long run
