They are just emulating the American way. They are good for the economy. Over saving can harm the economy.

There is method to the madness. Mdm Siti got to live a lifestyle that would have taken years to save up for. Now she has to spend the next 8 odd years paying off the debt. If she un(?)fortunately dies before that, it's the banks loss not hers.

It's the opposite philosophy of 先苦后甜 but still a valid one. Why delay gratification when credit is so easily available? Especially if you consider how inflation makes the same stuff more expensive over time.
