4 investigated for making false police reports

SINGAPORE - Three men and a woman were found to have made false police reports on three separate incidents.
In the first incident, on January 12 at about 1.15pm, a man lodged a police report at Kampong Glam NPP informing that his motorcycle which was parked along Lorong Liew Lian was stolen. On the same day at about 4.35pm, the man informed police that he had found his motorcycle along Jalan Sultan.
In the second incident, on January 11 at about 10.20pm, two men lodged a police report at Bukit Merah East NPC stating that they were robbed at knifepoint when they were at Sungei Kadut on January 10 at about 8.30pm. Their valuables including their identification documents were taken by the robbers.
In the last incident, on January 13 at about 2.44am, a woman called the police hotline and reported that her smart phone was snatched away by an unknown man while she was walking along Tras Street at about 2.35am.
Upon receipt of the three police reports, officers conducted investigations to look for the alleged perpetrators.
However, the officers detected many discrepancies in the course of investigations which led the four people to reveal the truth.
The man who claimed that his motorcycle was stolen had used the police report to account to his wife regarding his whereabouts.
The duo who claimed that they were robbed at knifepoint had in fact lost their work passes.
The woman who claimed that her phone was stolen had a dispute with her friend which caused her phone to be damaged.
Investigations against the four persons for making false police reports are ongoing.
Anyone who is convicted for giving any information which he knows to be false to a public servant shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year, or with fine which may extend to $5000, or with both.
