Celebrity wedding planner David Tutera is really mad at Melissa Chin, one of his former clients. Tartera basically called the woman a “Bridezilla” looking for 15 minutes of fame after she and her husband filed suit in Manhattan Supreme Court. Tortera claims the couple saw their wedding, and his involvement, as some sort of PR opportunity. My question is; “Is Bridezilla something a wedding planner should call any wedding client?” Talk about bad PR.

Tutera’s reality show, “My Fair Wedding”, is the defendant in the suit filed by Chin and groom Steve Choi after the Tutera failed to show up for their Aug. 22 dream extravaganza at Singapore’s five star Shangri-La Hotel. The $300,000 spectacle was produced by Tutera whose past celebrity clients include the Rolling Stones and former Vice-President Al Gore. Tutera now claims the bride’s father cut off the purse stings as the wedding was getting too expensive, but Chin’s attorneys say the contract will tell the story.

Apparently the Chins wanted the cost of the lavish affair to be a secret, which kind of runs counter to Tutera’s contention the whole thing was a publicity stunt. He had this to say with regard to publicity for the event:

“Chin herself asked for publicity but requested that the dollar amount her family spent was not made public in respect to her father’s political position.”

Turtera reportedly even had the wedding suppliers to sign confidentiality agreements so that the dollar sum would not be publicized. Melissa Chin is a molecular biologist and her husband Steve Choi is an IT consultant. Hardly a likely pairing for a Hollywood type PR . is seems. The couple also claim Tutera not only stood them up, but encouraged other contractors to do so as well. The couple did get married, and managed to put together missing elements Tutera was supposedly responsible for. Tutera stands by his claim that one payment increment was missed.

Regardless of the truth of this story Tutera need some lessons in public relations. Dude. Never call any bride “Bridezilla” because every woman on the planet is going to identify with that sweet girl approaching the altar. Tutera gets this week’s PR Goofy Award, right or wrong a bride is a bride. Even if Chin is Bridezilla, any sane wedding planner knows the pitfalls of goofing up a wedding.

Didn't your teacher teach you to quote your sources?

who is her father? what is his position in gov??

ok, the wedding is expensive, but we all know singapore gov is best paid gov in the world. therefore it is well known fact that they can afford to pay.

I do not see any problem.

Update on Dawn Yang
To all those who visited my blog independently of the Dawn Yang saga, apologies for this post. But I need to do this...

Dawn has left for New York to finish off her final year at NYU. Regardless of whether the lawsuit goes ahead or not, the peasants have lost, and lost decisively.

They mounted a vindictive, unprovoked campaign to discredit her, a campaign that still goes on, but have lost on every count.

The Peasants tried to get her sacked from STOMP - they failed. She continues to be their Star Blogger.

The Peasants tried to get her sacked from NYU - they failed. She will graduate with a degree from NYU in a year's time.

The Peasants tried to get Dawn vilified - yet those that matter still love her. The Press loves her. The media loves her and she is on the current cover of 8 days with Fiona Xie and Jade Seah.

In the end, the Peasants must learn that when they try to fight the Establishment, they will lose. This is NOT a democracy and thank God for that. Like Plato, I believe that democracy is the rule of the mob, and the mob must not be allowed to rule.

We have put down the insurrection and emerged victorious. The Peasants and their Chief Wendy Cheng can continue their pathetic lives in the sewers.

This is life. Get used to it.

So is it tutera, tartera or tortera?

If you wanted any coverage of her wedding, its also on Ms Dawn Yang's blog a while back...and she edited out the details following the blowup of this matter...

Hardly dignified, but Ms Mel Chin was blowing up a condom. ;-P

Wedding Bells a Ringing ♥

*update: Certain names and photos have been removed for the privacy of the bride
and groom

You know age is catching up with you when you start attending lots and lots of weddings.
Not your uncle's, 2nd cousin's, or grandmother's god-daughter's son's. I'm talking about
your friends' nuptials. Yup, when the people you hang out with start walking down th aisle
one by one, it's like a wakeup call. "You're not young anymore!" "Isn't it time YOU have a serious long term relationship?" "Oh my goodness, I used to party and do silly things with this person! He was crazzyyyyy. And now he's getting MARRIED? Gonna have KIDS?" "But I'm still a kid!.... Am I?"

So whilst I was back in Singapore, I was very, very excited to be part of my girlfriend's big day. She is the very first close female friend of mine to tie the knot. Actually preparations had long begun in the States, where she had been dating her Korean-American partner for some years. I had the privilege of accompanying her to her wedding gown fitting at famous bridal store Kleinfeld here in New York!

First off, before you get chained down with lock and key to someone forever, you have to enjoy a last night of wild freedom right? :)

We had her bachelorette or hen party at Velvet Underground during the club's anniversary celebration.

Blowing a condom! Yikes!

Dodgy dares with hot boys

The church service somewhere near Little India:

How cute - The Chinese bride wore the traditional Korean dress HanBok, while the Korean groom wore the traditional Chinese qipao!

At night, the wedding feast at Shangri-La hotel's grand island ballroom.

We were eagerly anticipating the dinner and curious how the ballroom would be transformed, because the couple had engaged a famous celebrfity wedding planner from the States.

David Tutera...!

*update: aka irresponsible jerkzilla

We weren't disappointed, to say the least. Everything was perfect and absolutely beautiful!

WOW. Extravagant and intricate flower arrangements... we were totally bowled over.

The slideshow displaying cute photos of the newly weds from past to present. Wonder if that is a tradition in other countries as well?

Wishing them love & happiness forever & always :)

After party at Butter Factory:
I wonder which of us amongst our friends is going to be next? Hmmmm.....
What kind of wedding do you hope to have? :)

Celebrity planner's no-show at wedding
by Lim Wei Chean

A COUPLE left high and dry at the altar by their celebrity wedding planner is taking him to court in New York for being a no-show at their estimated US$300,000 (S$423,000) dream celebration in Singapore last year.

Singaporean Melissa Chin and her South Korean husband Steve Choi were left scrambling to find a bridal bouquet, a dance floor, a white carpet and even the VIP table just 10 days before their nuptials, reported the New York Daily News and the New York Post.

The couple is suing Manhattan-based party planner David Tutera for fraud and 'severe emotional distress', the US papers reported. Mr Tutera, whose previous clients included entertainers Jennifer Lopez and Elton John, stars in Discovery Channel's reality TV series The Party Planner and WE TV's My Fair Wedding.

New York Daily News reported that the couple gave Mr Tutera a US$100,000 deposit and four round-trip business-class tickets from New York to Singapore. It also said they would foot the bill for six nights at the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore for him and his staff.

The suit filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court on Friday is seeking more than US$200,000 in damages from Mr Tutera, the New York Post reported.

When contacted yesterday by The Straits Times, the couple's lawyer Barak Vaughn would say only that 'the contract between Melissa Chin and David Tutera speaks for itself'.

Mr Tutera's spokesman Eda Kalkay did not respond to e-mail queries by press time. However, Ms Kalkay has disputed the allegations and was cited in New York Post as saying that the pair had missed a final payment.

She added that Ms Chin's father had told Mr Tutera not to get on the plane and that there was 'no more money'.

Ms Chin, who was a biology student at Boston University's Gilmore Laboratory, met her husband, an information technology consultant, at summer school in Harvard University according to their wedding blog.

Ms Chin, a molecular biologist, is the older of two daughters of a civil servant here.

Despite the setback, they tied the knot as planned on Aug 22 at Shangri-La's Island Ballroom with more than 100 guests.

Guests said the couple did not show any sign that anything was amiss, even though her father was a little upset at the celebrity's no-show.

But the wedding was nonetheless spectacular, with a guest describing the ballroom as a 'white-rose wonderland'.
