Upskirt pervert may face jail time

A private school teacher, who was charged with taking upskirt pictures may now face jail time after repeating the offence while waiting for his verdict.

According to a report by Lianhe Wanbao, 24-year-old Zhuan Shi committed the two offences on 3 and 4 July 2011 at a private school, and at a car show. If convicted could be jailed for up to one year, or fined, or both.

According to the report, the prosecution said that Mr Zhuang – who has requested for a probation sentence – suffers from a fetish and requested that the judge send him for treatment. The verdict for the case was originally scheduled to be announced on 18 July.

During the court session, the prosecution said that the police were notified that Mr Zhuang was arrested for the same crime while waiting for the verdict. However, the prosecution has yet to receive the investigation report, which will be used to review the case.

On 4 July 2011, a woman filed a police report saying she caught someone taking upskirt pictures of her, and was in possession of the camera used to take the pictures.

The report stated that Mr Zhuang headed over to the car show at Tampines at around 5pm that day. He placed his camera phone inside a pouch with a hole, hooked the pouch to his suitcase and took upskirt pictures of the woman while she was busy distributing flyers.

In his mitigation, his lawyer, Zhong Ting Hui, argued that this was Mr Zhuang’s first brush with the law. Mr Zhuang, who has a girlfriend – and present at the court session – is willing to accept punishment, and turn over a new leaf with the support of his family.

When the judge asked why Mr Zhuang committed the same offence while waiting for his verdict, his lawyer explained that he is still undergoing therapy for his condition. The case has been adjourned till 16 August.
