SINGAPORE - The police have arrested a 23-year-old man believed to be involved in a series housebreaking along Paya Lebar Road.

Since Monday (Jan 11), police have received reports of housebreaking along Paya Lebar Road. Items such as cash, jewelleries and watches were stolen.

After investigations, officers from Tanglin Division arrested the suspect on Friday (Jan 15) at around 12 pm. Cash amounting to about $1,200, jewellery and luxury watches were recovered, said the police in a media statement.

The suspect will be charged in the Court on Jan 16.

If convicted, he faces a jail term of up to 14 years.

Tips to prevent break-ins, according to the police:

- Ensure that all doors, windows and other openings are well secured with good quality grilles and close-shackled padlocks.

- Secure all doors and window grilles before retiring to bed or when leaving your home unattended, even for a short while

- Install a burglar alarm, motion sensor light and/or close circuit surveillance camera to cover the access points into your premises. Ensure that they are tested periodically and in good working condition.

- Keep large sums of cash in banks and expensive jewellery in a safe deposit box.
