SINGAPORE – A boat accident off Pulau Layak in Pahang, Malaysia on Sunday has left two Singaporeans dead and one missing.

A Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) spokesman said five other Singaporeans were injured and are receiving medical attention.

He was responding to Channel NewsAsia's query about a Malaysian online report on an accident involving a pleasure craft carrying Singaporeans and a trawler.

The spokesman said MFA is providing consular assistance to the Singaporeans involved in the accident and their families.

And officers from the Singapore High Commission in Kuala Lumpur and the Consulate-General in Johor Bahru are on the ground to help with the repatriation of the deceased and injured to Singapore.

They are also in touch with the Malaysian authorities on the search-and-rescue efforts for the missing Singaporean.
