A 17-year-old youth has died after falling from an overhead bridge in the wee hours of Sunday morning.
According to Lianhe Wanbao, Wang Jia Xing had fallen from an overhead bridge at Princep Street near Park Lane mall.
The area is popular with youths as there are a number of LAN gaming shops and fast food eateries there.
An eyewitness told Shin Min Daily News that Wang, looking quite drunk, was seen at about 3am that day with a girl who looked about 16.
The two were seen quarreling as they went up the overhead bridge while the girl, believed to be his girlfriend, was seen repeatedly grabbing and tugging on his arm.
Wang had shaken her off before climbing over the bridge railings to perch precariously on the planters at the ledge.
Tittering on the ledge and appearing emotional, he fell off the bridge and landed on the road below.
He was then seen struggling to get up while groaning and bleeding from his nose.
Wang stumbled on to the side of the road, all the while holding up his hand to prevent vehicles from hitting him.
Meanwhile, the girl he was with did not appear to panic as she called her friends on her phone. She was heard exclaiming that Wang had really jumped, and that she was not joking with them.
Soon, several other youths were seen rushing to the scene to check on Wang. In a semi-conscious state, the youth was rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
He passed away in the hospital two days later, and his family is devastated with his death.
Police are investigating the case.
