17 trees uprooted early Sunday

SINGAPORE : Seventeen trees were uprooted in the early hours of Sunday morning, while another 26 trees had branches blown off by gusty winds of about 77 km/h, according to the National Parks Board (NParks).

Of these, eight trees were not managed by NParks.

NParks contractors quickly cleared the fallen trees and branches within the hour, or pushed them to the road verges to be cleared later.

One fallen tree at Jalan Mutiara near River Valley Road hit the boundary wall of a condominium. And a parked car nearby also sustained some scratches.

And over at Burlington Square near Bugis Junction, a restaurant owner recounted what he saw when he approached his restaurant on Sunday morning.

Nayan Patel said: "When I was here, the storm threatened to uproot two trees. The two trees were badly damaged and their branches were falling off. Fortunately it did not happen in the day. So no one was injured."

This is interesting.

So Singapore going to be hit by typhoon or what?

I hope NPB are not going to claim that the 8 trees are the responsibility of individuals or private organizations.
They should be reviewing the situation with all trees and giving the proper advice or direction to prevent any accidents during thunderstorms.
To say that they only manage a certain number and not all, is not acceptable.

Is it under their jurisdiction? Can they exert influence if the owners aren't cooperative?

Let's look at it this way, if the "owners" are careless, then what can they do?

Nothing wrong with the tree.
This few day raining and soil become soft and the wind really strong.
We all can feel it. Those living on high floor unblock view can realy feel the different.
So to be fair not to blame NEA.
But for the flood I don't accept the reason given by PUB/LKY/LHL/ministers.
Should not had happen.
Is because of poor planning.

Strong winds can uproot even healthy trees. Don't say high floor, even stay low floor also can feel the wind

Who manages these eight trees then?

Depends...if tree fall during storm then not under NP care...If owner chop it down, str away consider under tree conservation area n NP gonna slap u with $6 K fine...:D:D.

just heaven giving us a sign that there is too much DEAD WOOD in this country.

at the exponential rate trees are uprooted, soon sg will be a botak

Did they not fine someone for cutting down a tree even when it was in his own garden a couple of years ago?

One day we have really strong wind blowing over a high rise block? How?

Dun laugh... it will happen.

Who manages these eight trees then?

Wah!, they even go to the extend of identifying which trees are not theirs, ultimate, taichi master, Ichiban!.

These eight trees belong to God, if they fall on you, it is an act of God; for He did not maintain the trees.

So, next time a branch fall on you, remember to ask whoever is conscious take a photo of that tree & find out who the owner is.

:D

Is it due to microbursts that the trees were uprooted?

Surely there must be a logical explanation for all these unforseen events.

Omen? ;)

Rotten dead woods are being uprooted from this land.

So the corrupted LEEgime will be removed from this island.;)

We have so many moronic regulations, that North Korea is pale in comparison, with exception that, they shoot you.

There was this house owner who cut down a tree in the garden, for it is getting old or something and was fined by NFARKs!, the person was fine cutting a tree in his/her own garden.

But, if that tree fall on someone & that person makes compensation, Nparks will say....Not my tree!!!!

But you think you tree in your garden is obstructing or is in danger of falling over, you may be fined.....

If you do, you are damned, if you don't you are damned..

Question, trees in Hougang Constituency & Potong Pasit Constituencey whose trees? NFARKs, or the respective town councils??

Must ask, for we have to take up taichi also....

De article still around...When u get someone to chop down trees in your premises, contractor will tell u better apply for permit...if the tree has a dia more then a meter...then confirm under the care of NP regardless of location...lidat how 2 say "trees not under their care"??:D:D

That is what I say, damn to do, damn not to do...! so, if the tree falls on somebody car, Nfarks will say, YOUR TREE!, you cut that tree which is more than 1m in diameter, without a permit or asking Nfarks, says that is our tree, you PAY!...so, do you are damn, don't do you are damn..uniquely YOUR sinGAPORE!.

Bet with you, the eight trees they mentioned, belongs to the Opposition areas...;)

We can be sure the trees in Oxley Rd and the Istana will never be uprooted.
