The so-called shopping malls would probably do better if they wind up as themed restaurants based on various countries and origins. Couple that with indoor playgrounds and/or integrated entertainment centres.

Look at TaoBao, Amazon, E.Z.buy, etc... Deliveroo, Grab and the like will ultimately double up as delivery as well.

i dont think arcades or entertainment stores can afford those sky high rents,shopping malls lack diversity nowadays,only the mainstream brands and the chain restaurants with lots of capital can survive.even then their quality is going downhill.take Long john for example.complete garbage now.

remember suntec city from 10 years ago?used to have a lot of fnb stores next to carrefour,now its full of branded,luxury brands crap,fashion,womens clothing shoes,lingerie,makeup and whatnot and a whole bunch of electronics stores.

it cost 5 to 10 USD just to ship one item from amazon,sometimes 12 USD or even as high as 26 USD.nobody wants to do business with SG because we are far away,and our hinterland is small and market sucks......imagine ur america with 300 million people and a huge middle class,huge distribution network,tons of warehouses and distribution centers.....all the shops and retailers want to be there.prices are cheap as fuck and free shipping.u can order a microwave oven online and get it shipped in america for a few bucks.....try shipping a microwave oven within singapore and see how much u have to pay.

Diversity is lacking because the malls are monopolized by a few players, each is just another cookie cut version of the other.

A lot of folks are pooling resources to put many items together in one order to save on shipping, hence Taobao and EZbuy are gaining popularity. Some say cheaper than Qoo10
