15 years for man who stabbed son to death
SHAH ALAM: A 41-year-old unemployed man who stabbed his son to death during a quarrel was sentenced to 15 years in jail by the High Court here.
A. Kumar stabbed Razak Kumar in the chest with a knife during a row at their home at Jalan Emas 33, Bandar Sungai Emas in Banting, at 8.20pm on March 27, 2011.
Justice Akhtar Tahir said the court was told the accused was a drunkard with a criminal record, but added that a life had been lost nonetheless.
“Even if he was angry at the son, there are other ways of venting instead of stabbing him on the chest.
“As the former president of the Appellate Court Tan Sri Lamin Mohd Yunus said ‘men are not allowed to play with other men’s lives’,” he said.
The accused was initially charged with murder and faced the mandatory death penalty, but as the trial proceeded, he pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of causing Razak’s death.
Earlier, lawyer T. Vijay asked the court to show mercy as the accused saved the court’s time by pleading guilty.
DPP Mohd Zaki Mohd Salleh said the victim died of a ruptured blood vessel and asked for a heavy sentence.
The court ordered Kumar’s jail term to commence from the date of his arrest on March 28, 2011.
