SINGAPORE: About 1.5 million Singaporeans will receive up to S$700 in cash in August through two payments, the regular GSTV – Cash and the GST - Cash Special Payment.

These are part of a S$1.5 billion package announced by Depuy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong in June to help Singaporeans cope with higher inflation.

About 575,000 eligible Singaporeans aged 65 and above will also have up to S$450 credited into their CPF MediSave Account in August, as part of the GST Voucher scheme, said the Ministry of Finance (MOF) on Tuesday (Jul 12).

Those born on or before Dec 31, 1969, and who are not already receiving Pioneer Generation or Merdeka Generation benefits will each receive S$100 in their CPF MediSave Account in end-August.

"This is the fourth year that these eligible adults will receive their five-year MediSave top-up annually from 2019 to 2023 that was announced at Budget 2019," the ministry noted.

Eligible recipients of the GSTV – Cash and GSTV – Cash Special Payment will automatically receive the payment if they have signed up for government disbursement schemes previously, said MOF.

Those who have not previously signed up for the GSTV scheme can do so at the GSTV official website, before Apr 30, 2023.

For Singaporeans who have not provided their bank accounts or linked their NRICs to PayNow, GovCash will replace cheques as the mode of payment from this year.

Those on GovCash can withdraw their GSTV – Cash and GSTV – Cash Special Payment at OCBC ATMs islandwide by entering their payment reference number that will be sent to them at the end of August and NRIC.

They do not require an OCBC bank account to withdraw the payment at the ATMs, said MOF.

"GovCash recipients can also use the LifeSG app to make payment to merchants by scanning their PayNow or NETS QR code, or transfer payments to their bank accounts via PayNow if they subsequently register for PayNow-NRIC," it added.

The ministry said that the August GSTV – Cash and GSTV – MediSave payments are part of the Government’s continuing support for lower-income and elderly Singaporeans, to help with their GST expenses and costs of living.

It noted that in addition, eligible Singaporeans would have received CDC Vouchers, two tranches of U-Save and S&CC rebates and top-ups to their Edusave account or Post-Secondary Education Account (PSEA) earlier this year.

"They can expect further support in the form of cash payouts, utilities credits, top-ups to Child Development Account (CDA), and another two tranches of U-Save and S&CC rebates in the coming months," said the ministry.

The cruel irony is that the more money they give, the worse the inflation gets.

Welcome to the Great Reset. Decimating the middle class and small businesses is the agenda.

Not true.

$700 is not exactly a lot of money, but it will help many of those whose earnings are less, a chance to spend & live life. It will motivate them to upgrade themselves, & will bring much more benefits to Humanity. It is Keynesian theory, which uplifted USA from not just recession, but a great depression in the 1920s, where the rich hoarded money, & the less well off stop spending, which eventually created stagflation, many companies bankrupted with their factories & product orders, which led to those who hoarded or saved money became out of job.

Do as the great Lee Kah Shing, a billionaire had taught when he picked up a mere 5cts from the street. 5cts can't buy anything today, but if it is added with a few cents more, it can buy a cup of coffee to bring relief to oneself, help the kopi boy keep his job, the coffee stall owner his investment, the landlord, the supply chains, the producer of coffee & his workers, etc. when MORE than 5cts are given to each & everyone by the millions in population to prudently spend on needs, than to give up on living .

Inflation & the forthcoming recession are real, & its causes are beyond control of any nation less those whom are hell bent on aggression & market manipulation of money & goods. Thus a need for action as counter measure for those effects so that our port city nation will not just survive, but thrive.

It's about CIRCULATION of money than it being hoarded up gathering dust when fear overtakes reason & logic...

They always manipulate the numbers to puff up the 'generosity' of the PAP regime. The local propaganda media will make a big deal about it. Not the first time.

In a democracy, the ELECTED govt acts on behalf of not just those whom had voted for the party, but ALL citizens once the elections are over. The govt earns REVENUE thru agreed upon necessary taxes thru legislation by elected legislators - personal, biz, etc, & USES such for COLLECTIVE social expenditure such as education, hospitals, security, infrastructures, etc on annual budgets. In difficult times, rather than to hold on to those funds, which will only gather dust, & should the nation not survive, those funds would be useless as there will be none alive for social expenditure to spend on.

Thus, those funds from revenue - taxpayers, biz, contributors to our society in all forms, are used, to stimulate necessary prudent spending so that all may survive. Alone, our individual funds will not help anyone or even ourselves to survive, but TOGETHER, it can be put to greater intelligent use which will benefit all, to survive.

how many ktv sessions is that?

these derisory sums also need to be mentioned?

as we 've long said, stinkypura is a sh*thole and ceca virus hub

jiuhu subsidy alone is abt RM 80 billion this year

except for attacking jiuhu currency to weaken it in the forex market, there is no other recourse left for stinky peasants and its ang moh masters' regional acolytes like ozzies.

the cold hard truth is stinkypura budget revenue is pitifully low , even based on exchange rates

of these revenues, much of it is financed by investment returns from temasick and GIC which remain opaque and have been headed by the lee dynasty for the umpteenth time now year after year

then there's tax on foreign workers, foreign corporations, ABSD stamp duty on property purchase by tiongs or others who like to use stinkypura as a money launderng and tax evasion hub.

despite all of those factors, stinkypura total budget revenue each year is peanuts in comparison to just about any country in neighbourhoodd or any comparator or competitor.

we've all known stats fudging have long been going on in stinkypura

this also seems to be the case for CECA virus and indon too.

GDP is a recently invented concept

in olden days, empires and kingdoms would collect taxes and these tax revenues and budget expenditures would tell you how rich or poor an empire was

going by those numbers, we can safely say that ozzie kangaroo humpers are about as big an economy as CECA virus with comparable budget revenues to gooks or CECA virus

that Indon is a much smaller economy than Iran, Saudi or Turkey each of these 3 countries' governmental budgets are consiederably larger than Indon

Yankee budget revenues and expenditures are also considerably greater than Tiongkok by all means, although GDP numbers may show the two countries very close to each other in aggregate terms

that stinkypura is not only smaller than war torn, suffering, ruined, victim country of Iraq but also much poorer in terms of budgt revenues (and expenditures)

but also others like jiuhu (despite all the forex manipulations by stinkies ozzies yankees and the likes to make stinkypura feel successful so that they can brag) thais Pinoys viets and also hongkies got comfortably bigger budget revenues and expenditures than stinkypura

btw, why does PAP-piglet need to raise GST if they hadn't lost money in yankee markets?

it's obvious they lost money big time but since stinkypura is a one party dictatorship autocratic regime they can steamroll any opposition and sweep inconvenient facts under the carpet.
