MPs question crash landing
By Rachel Lin

THE emergency landing of a Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) helicopter last month will be in the spotlight when Parliament sits next Monday.

Four MPs have tabled questions on the helicopter's forced landing in a Woodlands field, including Mr Michael Palmer (Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC), who is chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Defence.

The Ministry of Defence (Mindef) has been investigating the incident with the manufacturers of the Apache AH-64 helicopter.

Preliminary findings show that a mechanical problem led to the landing, Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee ____, who is also the Defence Minister, said earlier this month. The pilots had followed designated flight routes and emergency procedures.

These allowed them to land in an open field that was several hundred metres away from Housing Board flats and a primary school. Both pilots were unhurt, no civilians were injured and no damage was caused, although the helicopter's tail broke off as it hit the ground.

Mr Palmer told The Straits Times that he had worked on his questions together with Dr Mohamad Maliki Osman (Sembawang GRC), the MP for the area in which the helicopter landed. Dr Maliki cannot table parliamentary questions himself because he is an office holder, being the Parliamentary Secretary for National Development.

Michael Palmer just wants to justify his salary and make it look like he is doing something. This kind of jackass can become chair of GRC on defence. Pretty scary, right? If he knows anything about aircraft accident investigation, he should shut up and let the Board of Inquiry conclude its findings. Even Teo should have no influence on it. Its already a good piece of flying thatthe APache did not end up inside a HDB Block. This kind of minor flying accident in which there is no death, and no civilian damage does not even warrant a politician in some other country poking their nose into it. Better for Palmer to find ways to help the many needy and poor people in his GRC, or those that lost their jobs, or do something helpful for a change. Irecall in the 70s and 80s, so many Skyhawk crashes, and other RSAF crashes and no MP will table any fuck questions. He is just trying to score brownies points.

This is another back padding exercise. Gross, nauseating, want to throw up seeing these useless scums padding their backs. I am sick of all these while the real Singaporeans are suffering. Sick Sick Sick. :oIo: :oIo: :oIo:

Fortunately, real singaporeans suffering are normally blind to their own suffering. They know that lifeis hard, but they think its normal, as their family and friends are in the same boat. They don't understand who causes it.

It's happened before. An F5E crashed in Johor in the 90s. A heliborne rescue team was activated to pull the pilot out. No one in johor got rich as far as I know.

Wait till a RSAF jet crashes --not into Singapore soil but Johor ground. Then will see what will happen

Someone got paid money to allow the recovery of the wreck. S'pore's F-5Es are modified, so there are items in the wreck they do not want the malaysians to see. That costs money. The mats will squeeze the RSAF to compensate the farmer or whatever that owned the land the plane crashed in. The local police will want kopi money for standing guard over the wreck. The immigration will receive compensation for allowing RSAF personnel to recover the wreck without the requisite work permits etc. The RSAF will want to do their own accident investigation or else if they let the malaysians investigate, the results will be screwed up, it will take too long, and they will want compensation. So, money provided again to allow the RSAF to do their own investigation. Many more ways for them to make money.

Michael's dad helped prep old man for interviews.

By the way, questions are raised so that PAP can find a forum to tell how heroically they changed a disaster to a miracle. A Government Parliamentary Committee is not only for oversight, it is to tell the other MPs that there is committee that is briefed regularly and therefore don;'t ask questions that might lead to embarrassment.

I don't care whether Michaels dad wiped Old Goat's backside, he is still a moron.

every trained pilots are taught emergency procedures. that's pretty much SOP.

before each flight, there's always a short briefing that if there's engine failure or major issue, where can the plane/heli be put down. that's common practise even in civilian flights.

They should crash themselves into the sea instead of risking thousands of civilian lives staying in HDB and studying.in school

super lame,

they should question why the pilot did not attempt to made the emergency landing at sembawang airbase which is less than few mins away from where he land...this show the lack of skill and judgement as the heli is not on fire or in serious trouble...
