Why so strong? They have new ZEN CPU architecture and new external scale: 16 memory channels for 2 socket CPUs or 8 memory channels for 1 socket CPUs, 8 to 32 CORES, 16 to 64 threads.

Integer computing is 48% higher than top Intel CPU.

Floating point computing is 75% higher than top Intel CPU.

Memory & I/O performance is higher than top Intel Solution by 2.4X because of 16 channel memory and 128s way PCI I/O lines. This is just eating Intel up by brute size.

They integrate with their own ATI core GPUs to deliver super strong data center combination, that are out performing Intel by many times.

AMD正式发布服务器处理器：“霄龙”降临

　　今天凌晨在美国奥斯汀，AMD正式发布了服务器级别的EPYC处理器，同时也公布了EPYC处理器的中文名字。全新的CPU摒弃了原来“皓龙”的名字变成了“霄龙”，让高通的后背出了一身冷汗。

　　全新的EPYC“霄龙”处理器采用的是最新的Zen架构，针对服务器、数据中心做了大量的针对性设计和优化。规格的话14nm工艺制造、最多32个核心(64个线程)、支持八通道DDR4内存、每路最多2TB内存、128条PCI-E通道、独立安全子系统、集成芯片组(SoC片上系统)、接口兼容下代产品。

　　其中EPYC 7601为旗舰处理器，频率2.2-3.2GHz，热设计功耗180W，次旗舰EPYC 7551频率降低到了2.0-3.0GHz，入门级的EPYC 7201为8核16线程规格，频率2.1-2.9GHz。
