A 54-year-old grandfather who helped his family members beat up a man at a coffeeshop was on Thursday jailed for 17 months, in a case the court described as straight out of an action movie.
Roslan Zainol was part of a group of six that confronted the victim, 53, in a coffeeshop at Chai Chee Road on Jan 18 last year. This was after Roslan's brother, 50, had earlier picked a fight with the man, but the coffeeshop's owner had intervened and broken it up.
Roslan's son struck the victim twice with a wooden pole, which broke into two after the first blow, while Roslan threw a glass mug at the man and kicked him after he had fallen to the ground.
Their victim was left with injuries, including a nose fracture and bruises.
