whoever you learn your wing chun from, if this hand you also don't know i can tell you straight away your shifu sucks like hell. this is one of the basic hands in wing chun known as gan sau, and yes it indeed is a combination of both tan and bong. in some family of wing chun, this hand is even found in little idea/little training form (i know ban zhong wing chun first set has this hand). I myself love to use this for blocking and trapping kicks to middle section and head, this is what this hand is in fact famous for. although i do admit his structure seems a bit too stiff and his bong sao is not fan out enough for the bone to point outwards. position is fine, its a adopted position after zou ma from normal square position.
