Actually, the higher ranks (SIOs and above) do not want to arrange out-of-court settlements for such cases. The lower ranks (IOs and below) want to. Higher ranks do command lower ranks. That's why higher ranks have the powers to dump unwanted cases on lower ranks. This type of cases carry no brownie points for promotion, so lower ranks just have to try to settle a.s.a.p. to have more time for cases carrying brownie points for promotion.

The process is correct. The chap is obviously going to make represenation to AG to reduce the charge to VCH and not greviously causing hurt and the compensation helps. Even if the charge is not reduced, it will help mitigate his sentence. The Police is duty bound to convey the offer.

The victim should accept the offer as the making of the offer is the key and will be mentioned in representation to the AG and for court sentencing. The victim rejecting it actually will not result in a stiffer sentence.

I hope the AG teaches him a lesson by rejecting the rep to reduce the charge. Grievous hurt has been infllicted as the victims were hospitalised and bones broken. The buggers ran away so there was no contrition or showing of remorse. I hope they get their just desserts.

I am absolutely certain that the authorities will be throwing the book at him and the Police will be pressing for it. There are a number of reasons for it.

1. The investigation that led to the arrests were conducted by the victim. The Police failed hopelessly. This is case is similar to the Shankar, Newreaders molest case where the victim's father and a taxi driver carried out the investigations to secure a conviction. I understand complaint lodged against IO and his arse is on fire.

2. Where the culprits did was shocking and a total disregard to Singapore and Singaporeans.

3. This arsehole absconded and his father made derogatory state about Singapore in NZ and no remorse was shown.

4. This is an excellent opportunity to show SIngaporeans that this Govt cares.

His arse will be toast for sure. Unless in his mitigation he says that he was sexually assaulted by his parents from a young age and he was fighting his inner demons.

If it was Singaporean getting beaten up abroad in western country, our MFA foreign mission will inform your family in Singapore, that's about it. Not to forget that after causing grievous hurt, the assailant taunted the victims about where their fathers are and challenge what they could do.

They must be sent to experience a taste of our prison and the hospitality of our prison brothers. Let the course of justice prevail behind prison walls where it has failed outside it. I hope they will be whacked to a real good coma.

SPF is actually not concerned with crime rate per se, whether junior or senior officers. Crime rate is a political concern, up to PAP to be concerned. SPF is concerned about case solving rate. Of course, patrol and deterrence are police duties. But just routine duties, arresting and investigating crimes committed are still the core duties.

Of course, patrol and deterrence are police duties. But just routine duties, arresting and investigating crimes committed are still the core duties.

I'm not sure whether I'm a pesky person who will call the police or SCDF with regard to almost anything and the police in general were not too keen with executing their duties except asking questions, writing it down and asking and writing ... after that they would never get back to me. Instead, I have to press them to do something say to warn my neighbour for creating 'troubles' or conveniences in our premises like burning papers or joss sticks. Do you know how dirty and poisonous those things are ? Cancer causing agents what's more !

In fact, I heard enough injustice in some forums about people being 'kicked out' of a police station or warned by rude police for 'creating trouble' when they were the victims themselves who summoned the police. So lazy. Basically, bo chup ! How could these things be happening here ? OMG ! We're lumber wun, do you know that ?
