AVA considers blowpipes to control stray dog numbers

THE Agri-food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) is exploring the feasibility of using blowpipes and tranquilliser darts to stun and catch stray dogs.

A tender, which it had put up last Friday looking for suppliers, closes today.

The tender is for the supply of one blowpipe and darts for a trial, said a spokesman of the move to see if the method can complement existing ones such as baits, traps and lassos.

The spokesman said the method was suggested by animal welfare groups such as the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Action for Singapore Dogs.

I suggest hiring Malaysian Sakais and Penans, rather than their own personnel that need training. Cheaperer, fasterer and betterer. I saw the Penan in action at the Singapore Zoo and he is very accurate.

There are stray dogs in any part of the world. Just that people elsewhere don't KPKB about getting bullied by stray dogs.

In Malaysia, yes. Plenty of stray dogs around. The Malaysians would ignore them but whack them silly if the dogs get aggressive. All Malaysian Malays, Indians and most Malaysian Chinese won't eat them, just whack them out of the way. Some Malaysian Chinese would happily tangkap them home to cook and eat quietly.

In USA, I've never seen a stray dog in almost ten years there. US FDA and SPCA have very regular patrol rounds without needing a complaint call since 1950s and 60s. By the 1980s and 90s, finding a stray dog in any US city or town street would be like striking lottery. All that you can find are a very few lost or abandoned pet dogs. Singapore is about at the same level now. Our problem is with stray cats, not stray dogs. Since cats just scavenge but don't bite, there're few complaints.

Eating is not a problem, as long as I do it quietly at home. But I want a dog restaurant license. Otherwise, catch so many dogs for what?

In PRC the drivers run over children and old folks like nobody's business. Pedestrians on the road, look out for yourselves, regardless of gender or age.

There was once I was in my PRC GF bro's van and he ran over a dog. That was real accident as I could see, there wasn't any intention but the dog just suddenly rushed out of pavement. Incredibly, he stopped and attended to the dog. After that he said let's move on, the dog was too bloody flattened to be edible.

Times are so bad and people are hungry. So AVA just issue a quota limited permits to hunt and eat stray dogs. The problems will take care of it self. Same for cats! :p

PRCs catch little sparrows and fry them whole until you can can chew them whole bones inclusive, just like our nasi lemak kuning fish. Cheap and declicious snack.
