The worst scenario for WP I expected with the sacking of Yaw, is that the PAP government will refuse to hold a by-election.

As nearly expected, PM Lee has now said there is no hurry to hold one. So this may come true.

PAP can turn the tables around and tell the people to blame WP since they selected wrong candidate that resulted in this.

If they do not hold one, they will tire out WP's MPs and sap their energy, while allowing Desmond Choo with all the PA support to shine and perform then go for 2016. Also, as Hougang residents do not have an MP to serve them, they will subsequently blame WP for causing this.

What WP's supporters can now do is to make PAP look like a coward for not holding one. And down the road, how ridiculous it is to delay so long despite the fact that there is no time limit.

Remember that this pressure has to make PAP give way within this year (2012), or it means PAP will really keep Hougang vacant until 2016.

the TC for Hougang SMC was put together with Aljunied GRC or something? am sure the 5 MPs can help the folks around this region. may even see Hougang SMC being absorbed into AJ-GRC in next election :D:D:D

Persp,
I dont think PAP will keep the ward vacant for a whole election term. They wont have an bald excuse except partisan politicking and be seen as ungentleman and cowardly.

It's also not that PAP doesnt have its own skeletons. Who knows what's going to fall out next?

Agree with you. But that is for the people to assert. You know how thick skin PAP is and nowadays PAP supporters online are increasing by numbers.

pap might want to use this opportunity to test ground on their candidates

PAP knows Hougang is no place to test ground and they will be putting Choo through another symbolic loss painful for him. If it was Eric Low, PAP would not mind since they treasured him less.

the MIW will never back down from a by-election. That will reflect badly on them.

So the ruling party will try to win over the hougang votes, maybe the people there will be very happy as they can have the best of both world though I can see some voters lost to the ruling party as the ruling party has got lots of freebees and titbits.

In the end, the opposition cause looked bleak again at this moment.

The people selected too few opposition to represent them, especially when they could have given a chance to Chiam and Co, to Yee Jenn Jong, to Gerrard Giam and Co and even to Nicole but now as the gov wayang continues, I don't know how many rue the opportunity lost.

I was not happy when WP took one GRC, it was not enough, five years is a loong time to fix the opposition and now they are fixed by both the people and the ruling party.

GE2011 should be considered a year of wasted opportunities, I will not hold my breath for GE2016. The ruling party has awoke even with people of lousy calibre joining them, it is more than enough to crush the opposition again.

For Hougang residents to consider: Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me.

Wrong. Read this:

There. I can read PAP pretty well. In fact, PM started to blame WP for this, as I expected he would say.

Well he isn't wrong, They didn't tell Yaw to go loose his load on every woman he sees and WP was the one who sack Yaw, nothing to do with PAP. As far as they are concern, good time to score points. Plus more importantly he has a very good excuse, National Budget debate is coming up. The By Election is an important issue but the National Budget debate is even more important. Focus should be on that at the moment and he can drag that out for a month at least to work out their election strategies and allow the other opposition parties to consider whether they should join the party. They come in too soon, PAP themselves are not prepared and they know the other opposition do not have time to consider. My guess is fastest will be after national budget debate

Make them regret like what was said to voters of Aljunied GRC prior to election?

nah beh...this is macham like soccer match heading towards PAP loss / PAP trailing, suddenly referee award penalty !

of cse take lah...but before taking, must select striker mah...position the ball and wayang abit...ball in PAP court...they decide when and where to call / take the kick. Whether score or not, depend on striker (candidate) and the goalie (WP candidate) LOL

The last thing PAP will do is to merge two oppo strongholds together.

If they really deny HG a by-election, which will happen is that they will cut up HG into a few pieces and distribute it out. Same as what I expect them to do for PP.
