SINGAPORE: French club Etoile FC will not participate in this year's S.League competition.
The Football Association of Singapore announced Monday that the 2010 champions have decided to sit out the upcoming season.
Etoile FC cited debts and liabilities carried forward from previous management and new developments in local football as reasons.
It said it will focus on grassroot football and youth development.
Chairman of Etoile FC Hicham Moudden said after several meetings with S.League management, both sides were unable to find a solution for Etoile FC to continue participating in the new season.
He added that the club's management will spend the next few months re-prioritising its resources and objectives and he hopes the club will return to the S.League "at an opportune time".
In place of Etoile FC, FAS announced that Malaysian football club Harimau Muda will make its debut in the 2012 Great Eastern-YEO's S.League competition.
The new season will kick off on February 9.
