The last People's Liberation Army Cavalry

It is regular and plenty. They are deployed as regular rural border defence and missile / radar site parameter patrols. They won't change to other types. Highlands are very step in certain areas and deep snow in many months of each year. Mechanised alternative require too much fuel.

Thanks for the info. Also notice many modern days cavalry units are use for ceremonial events.

from the third picture, "the flag say "Gansu Independent Cavalry Company. it should be border guards or some kind of security troops.

from the looks of the troopers, many dont look chinese, wont be surprise if most were uyghurs. during the 30s, the Ma led muslim troops defend the area against the russian, some surrender to the commies after kmt defeat. that would explain the why the troopers in the picture look like accomplished horsemen.

Not in PRC. The Tibetan & Mongolian borders are high mountains and desert areas. Some outpost at high altitudes are almost fully cut off from supplies for 3 month each year buried in 20 foot snow. These sites are best radar station sites due to paramount advantage. Must deploy and guard, so horse are used as vehicles.

I have been toying with the idea of riding a horse. Was at the entrance of a horse riding school in LOS but pai seh to go beyond the gates. Saw a lot of local and foreign small kids going in and out of the school.

I probably inspired by Azhar and Saimee.

Sinkie and Ang Moh only use it as ceremony.
In China/India/Latin many army still use. Also no need to carry fuel, maintenance, can move in slope and narrow path.
If using Jeep/wheel tank how to move in narrow path/slope in mountain, if no fuel/leak/breakdown how to move on?

Many people don't realise that horse riding was actually revolutionised by China.. ok more accurately, Genghis Khan and his invading hords.

The Mongols were so effective fighting on horseback because they invented the stirrups. This piece of riding technology was then adopted by Europeans after Genghis and his posse rode through their town and finished raping their women.
