A three-year-old boy is in a critical condition after being mauled by a tiger at a roadside zoo in Russia. The tiger was tied to a post behind a small fence when the attack happened at the zoo in Blagoveshchensk, in Russia's Amur region.

A man who was shown on Russian television inside the tiger's enclosure said he tried to stop the attack. "I hit it (the tiger) with a stick, there was a metal thing on it. But it clutched the kid very tight," he said.

A doctor at the Amur Regional Hospital said: "The boy was brought in a bad condition, he had an emergency operation which lasted several hours.

"He is in intensive care now, in a bad condition. It is hard to give any prognosis so far."
An official of the Amur Regional Investigative Committee said his office was gathering information on the attack.

"According to the information we have, the tiger was not inside the cage, it was between the fence and the cage, so it was free," he said.

"It was attached by a chain, but people were allowed behind the fence to take photographs. "The investigators will find out whether it was legal, and will give their legal evaluation."

Wah lah eh small fence small post how to safely see tiger? Should ask Wu Song to escort...

If you go to the tiger farms in LOS they have picture taking sessions with tigers. The farm I went to had a choice between taking a picture with a cute baby tiger or an adult. However they do have people supervising these sessions

Tigers are meant to be in the wild and eat whatever they can killed, they are not meant to be in zoo under human control and exploitation. So they will fight back before we make them extinct. Well done tigers.:p

its big money in kanchanaburi tiger temple for the thai monk ;)

If Ramseth was around, the tiger would have been attacked and thereafter tiger meat for BBQ.

If human beings can't be trusted, how to trust an animal? Thai monks have nothing to live for. They can take the risks involved with close proximity with tigers.

If they are taking care of the tigers, I don't think anyone mind if they make some $$. Someone has to pay to feed the tigers.

The tiger park I visited in LOS exploited the tigers & crocodiles to the tourists. They had plenty of spare animals which I suspect were slaughtered & the parts sold off for $$$.

well the problem is those tiger is not rescued as what the monk said ...those monks use money to buy those tigers and telling tourist that the temple is used for saving and helping those tigers ;) .approximately 15 tigers live at temple at any one time. poor housing, husbandry and cruel handling are systemic throughout the facility. far from being allowed to roam free, tigers are confined for 20 hours a day away from public view in small, barren concrete cages, measuring 31.5 m2 to 37.3 m2. this falls short of the published minimum of 500m2 for a pair or a mother and her cubs. Staff also routinely beat adult tigers and cubs with poles and metal rods.

Not sure about animals but when humanbeings are high, anything goes. Extremely risky when 'high'.

My buddy GTB also can. He bashed up quite a lot of tiger generals on his way to promotion to HI. Rank and file street guy, non-scholar. Probably the last one left in SPF.

Drifter, I think what you said about these tigers being ''high'' is quite valid.. I'm sure normal tigers would have wallop those staff if they kena beaten by them.. I really think its animal abuse on their part in beating these tigers and cubs with poles and metal rods..:(

Circus and zoo staff train tigers and lions by pain and fear. There's no way they can be pets. It's a continuous process. You must keep the pain and fear there. In this sense, Drifter is correct. You train your dog once and its yours loyally forever. Not applicable to big cats like tigers and lions. I won't even trust small cats.
