My Plea to Dr Tan Cheng Bock

LHL has shown his pettiness and divisiveness yesterday by briefing only PAP MPs on the Ministers' Salary Review Recommendations. If he is truly Prime Minister of Singapore, shouldnt he find it right to brief all MPs regardless of party affiliation? Why brief only PAP MPs? Are not WP MPs the elected representatives of Singaporeans? Why the discrimination against Opposition MPs?

So I find that LHL's promised changes after GE 2011 are just hogwash. There is no real change in that man. If LHL is not willing to change, Singaporeans must change the pap for the good of Singapore's future

The WP, NSP, SDP, RP, etc, are fighting a good fight and hopefully they will be able to win more GRCs and SMCs. But every help counts and I see a significant help in Dr TCB. He has the credibility, the experience, the values, the character, the morals, the love and care for Singaporean. My plea is for Dr TCB to do a final push in GE 2016 and help win a GRC from the pap.

A TCB win will be significant. It will be much more than just a GRC win...His win wld be symbolic and open the eyes and courage of ex PAP MPs and members to do the right thing for Singapore and not to be beholden to a dying dinosaur, PAP, which is severely out of touch with Singaporeans everyday life. The exodus to the Opposition because of a TCB win can be a nightmare for the PAP and will quicken its demise

So, Dr TCB, please stand up, be a candidate for GE 2016 and defeat the pap. Your defeat of a PAP GRC team wld open the floodgate for other righteous PAP members to follow your footstep to step out of the pap shadow and do a true service to Singapore, not just serving the pap. Your marginal defeat in PE 2011 maybe divinely ordained, for you to stand for GE 2016 and make a real difference and be a much more blessing to Singapore and Singaporeans than if you were President of Singapore. A SG President can do nuts!

And truly, that's what matters at the end of the day!!!

The PM himself is getting a 36% pay cut and the President, around 50%..

As people have already mentioned I am not sure TCB can really go against his former party in a GE setting. There are also many tactical issues. Many of his PE supporters, as others have mentioned, were PAP sympathizers. If TCB goes full opposition, he would lose this core group. Kudos to forummer Perspective for highlighting these details.

True..but I sense TCB's sense of righteousness and I think he will step forward for the sake Singapore and Singaporeans. Once that barrier is broken, more credible ex pap members will step forward too.

hahaha....gugu, don't get too excited.....technically ah loong was not discriminating against WP MPs....the event was a Papee (monthly) caucus......so of course it was only meant for papee members.
yes...membership has its priviledges......bt in this case it is not some insider info or what......they merely got to sniff at the proposals 1 day ahead of the rest of us....shiok sendiri only.......no big deal lah.

not so simple..as PM of Singapore he must be careful how he conducts himself. he must not be seen to favour a certain political party.

If Singaporeans dont demand a honourable conduct, the PM can go astray

this one no brainer......TCB will not stand for next GE because:
1. papee will not invite him to stand (too old)
2. he will NOT join any other party or stand as independent

however, high chance he will stand for PE again if his health permits him.

i disagree with you. i dont think he will want to stand as a pap candidate again. but i m hoping that tcb will stand against the pap

I don't know TCB personally but looking at his Facebook, he seems to be the unifying guy that he said he was, more suited to the President's role than an MP's.

Only if there is break off party from the PAP. But this is only an outside chance. A lot of the present team of politicians have to depart from the scene first before this can happen, when there is no clearcut leader. But it will not take just one term, maybe two or more. By that time TCB will be too old. He might be very independent. He might not like many policies of the PAP. Don't think he would join an anti-PAP coalition to contest against PAP.

I don't think Tan Cheng Bock would run 5 years later. Unless some miracle happen like Tony Tan quitting in a year's time because he's not happy with the salary.
