Singapore is the highest defence spender in SEA, more than much bigger countries like Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia. Some questions are, is this necessary, is this misspent and wasteful? After spending so much, citizens still have to suffer so much under NS, is it worthwile and value for money?National defence is like personal insurance. Are we over-insured or buying too many wrong policies?

philippines spend so much ? Think they have only 1 functional plane in their air force ...and that's not even a fighter. I'm sure most of the expenditure is on personnel ....$$$$ gone into their pockets in typical mabuhay fashion. :p

Totally agreed - man is the worst animal on earth.

Also the most stupid - every year, we devise more and more expensive ways to kill each other.

Add up all the $$ spent on defense - there is the solution to world poverty, medical care, housing, and all the other essential needs, including the re-greening of our home, Planet Earth.
