Inter Milan end Gasperini reign

Inter Milan have dismissed coach Gian Piero Gasperini after a poor start to the new season.

The Italian giants suffered their fourth defeat in five official games with a shock 3-1 reverse at newly-promoted Novara on Tuesday night and Gasperini, who replaced Leonardo in the summer, has been let go. A statement from Inter read: "Inter announces that today's [Wednesday] training session has been carried out by Daniele Bernazzani and Giuseppe Baresi.

"The club wishes to thank Gian Piero Gasperini for the effort shown during his tenure and manifests its true disappointment for the interruption of the relationship with the coach." Inter president Massimo Moratti questioned Gasperini's leadership after Tuesday's 3-1 Serie A defeat at Novara.

He said: "When you lose in the manner that we did against Novara, there is nothing positive to take from that. "Gasperini did not seem to be in control." Gasperini, meanwhile, denied he had lost the backing of his players. "Moratti has declared that I don't have the support of the players?," he questioned. "The rapport with the group is optimum.

If the problem is the coach, then it has an easy solution.
"If, instead, as I believe, the problem is another one, then we must resolve it through work." Inter have yet to announce who will replace Gasperini. They travel to Bologna on Saturday before taking on CSKA Moscow in Russia in the Champions League four days later.

Inter sack Gasperini

Inter Milan have fired head coach Gian Piero Gasperini following their disastrous start to the 2011-12 campaign.

The Serie A giants have confirmed the 53-year-old's departure on their official website.

"Inter want to communicate that the first-team training at Appiano Gentile this morning was taken over by Daniele Bernazzani and Giuseppe Baresi," a statement on inter.it reads.

"The club wishes to thank Gian Piero Gasperini for the effort shown during his tenure and manifests its true disappointment for the interruption of the relationship with the coach."

Gasperini replaced Leonardo as the man in charge at Giuseppe Meazza earlier this summer, but the former Genoa tactician failed to stamp his authority on the Coppa Italia holders and has consequently been relieved of his duties.

Gasperini began his spell at Inter with a 2-1 Italian SuperCup loss against AC Milan. He then followed the derby defeat up with a 4-3 reverse at Palermo and a scoreless draw with Roma in Serie A.

A 1-0 home defeat to Trabzonspor in the Champions League last week only added to his misery, and club president Massimo Moratti moved to dismiss Gasperini after Tuesday's shock 3-1 loss against Novara in the latest Serie A fixture.

Carlo Ancelotti (born 10 June 1959) is an Italian football manager, Nicknamed Carletto, Ancelotti played as a midfielder and had a successful career with Roma – captaining the team – with whom he won one Scudetto and 4 Coppa Italia and was part of the legendary late 80's Milan team, with whom he won two Scudetti and two European Cups in a five-year period. He was capped 26 times and scored one goal for the Italian national team and appeared at the 1986 and 1990 World Cups.

After spells as manager of Reggiana, Parma and Juventus, Carlo Ancelotti was appointed Milan manager in 2001. He won the Scudetto in 2004, the Champions League in 2003 and 2007 and the Coppa Italia in 2003. They were also Serie A and Champions League runner-ups in 2005. He is one of six men to have won the European Cup as player and manager. In May 2009 he was appointed Chelsea manager and in his first season led them to a historic Premier League and FA Cup Double. He became only the second non-British manager to win the double, the other being Arsène Wenger. After an uneven Premier League season in which Chelsea failed to retain the title, Ancelotti was dismissed as Chelsea manager in May 2011.

Ranieri unveiled as Inter coach

22 September 2011

Claudio Ranieri has been officially unveiled as the new coach of Serie A club Inter Milan.

Ranieri takes over the club from Gian Piero Gasperini, who was fired earlier this week following Tuesday night's 3-1 defeat at Novara - the side's fourth loss in five matches.

The Giuseppe Meazza club have confirmed the appointment of the 59-year-old on their official website.

Ranieri, who has previously coached Valencia, Chelsea and Roma, has put pen to paper on a deal until June 2013. He will lead the team for the first time during Thursday afternoon's training session and will take the reigns for Saturday's Serie A clash with Bologna.

"Claudio Ranieri is officially the new coach of Inter. The tactician has signed a contract that will keep him with the club until 30 June 2013," a statement on the club's official website reads.

"Everybody at Inter is pleased to welcome Ranieri at the club and wish the coach and his staff all the best."

Ranieri had been out of work ever since he left Roma in February 2011. He has previously worked at clubs including Juventus, Parma, Valencia, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid, Fiorentina, Napoli and Cagliari, and he will be officially presented during a press conference on Friday.

Ranieri had been in charge of Roma since September 2009

Former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri has resigned as coach of Serie A side Roma after they surrendered a 3-0 lead to lose 4-3 against Genoa on Sunday.

It was Roma's fourth successive defeat and they dropped to eighth in Serie A.

They are nine points behind city rivals Lazio in fourth, the lowest place from which it is possible to qualify for the Champions League.

Roma confirmed on Monday that they had accepted Ranieri's resignation after meeting with the 59-year-old.

Ranieri, who managed Chelsea from 2000 to 2004, took over at the Italian club in September 2009 and guided the Giallorossi to second place in the league last season as well as the Coppa Italia final.

But the club is up for sale, with American consortium DiBenedetto currently in a 30-day period for exclusive talks to buy the club, and Ranieri had not been offered an extension to his contract, which was due to expire at the end of June.

"Roma wishes to thank Claudio Ranieri for the professionalism shown and the work done," said a club statement.

Roma went into the January transfer window competing in Serie A, the Coppa Italia and the Champions League, but Ranieri was not able to sign any players.

"Ranieri's resignation is an act of great responsibility and dignity," said Italy national team coach Cesare Prandelli, who was in charge of Roma in 2004.

"I don't know the dynamics of the team so I cannot enter into specifics, but we all remember last year's Roma that managed to keep up with Inter until the end of the season.

"The Italian league is very difficult and you have to have the right mentality and continuity in form to do well. I think that when something breaks, the responsibility is not just of one person."

In midweek, Roma's Champions League campaign suffered a severe setback after the 3-2 home defeat by Shakhtar Donetsk in the Stadio Olimpico.

Roma have conceded 14 goals in their last four games and visit Bologna on Wednesday before hosting Parma this weekend.

Former Roma striker Vincenzo Montella is the current youth team coach at the club and has been linked with the managerial vacancy.

Italian Ranieri is a vastly experienced manager, having coached numerous other Serie A teams, including Juventus, as well as Spanish clubs Valencia and Atletico Madrid.
