I heard Hainanese are a tight knit tribe. Sukinan still holds ............

An interesting story to share............

I knew this guy back more than 25 years ago. A Hainanese thru and thru. An only son. He was the one who introduced me to the Hainanese concept of one for all and all for one as taught by his father. Speaks Hokkien as the main dialect. Chinese educated.

Surprisingly although he did not speak Cantonese fluently, he was a walking encyclopedia of Samuel Hui's Cantonese hits and can recite with great accuracy all the lyrics of Hui's greatest hits.

A few years after his father's passing, he sent his mother into an old folks home. A friend of ours helped him cleared his mother's belongings and found a large document envelope beneath a cupboard. What was found inside was shattering to the Hainanese chap. He made our friend promise never to reveal what he saw.

Subsequently when their friendship went the way and beyond that between Tan Kin Lian and Wong Wee Nam, my friend told me that they found a birth certificate and adoption papers which revealed he was born of Cantonese parents and adopted by a Hainanese couple. He never visited his mother again until her death. The HDB home was bequeathed to him long before she entered the old folks home.

You tell me what you think of this story.

You Hainan on GMS side or MBT side or TJS side? :D

If my late father was still around , he had to address Tan Jee Say as uncle although Tan Jee Say is much more younger than him.
If I meet Tan Jee Say in my Tan Clan association in Seah Street , I have to address him as Granduncle though he is older than me not more than 20 years
My surname is Tan.
Tan Jee Say is my clansman.

What to do? I followed by father and uncles around. They joined what, I joined what. They only scolded when I joined Police but after a while they're OK. I could tell them in advance which gambling dens were going to be raided. Hahaha!!!
